Any more RMS failures?
There have been no more RMS failure reports for the past 5 months. Was the problem limited to 2018 and 2019 engines?

I was wondering about it as well. I've checked the original thread a few times and surprised that no new posts have showed up. My car, a 2021, has shown no signs of leaks as yet. It isn't due for service until March and only has 11,000 miles on it. I plan to have them check for it when I take it in.

My 2018 had it done at 54k miles. From conversation with my local MB parts department, an updated part# for the RMS has been available for more than a year. The install of the new part# had some specific install notes to reflect this. We can assume (hope) the new part is less prone to failure and might be installed in the newer MYs.

I feel like all these RMS posts were 2018’s. were there other years thrown in the mix as well? I have a 2019 now with 44k miles and it’s bone dry back there. I also don’t go the full 10k for oil change intervals (I’ll do 5-6k), always wait for temps to be out of the blue before even thinking about getting on it. I try to avoid heat cycling my car…..if I’m gonna start it, I drive it. I never idle the vehicle either. Basically all the OCD stuff and so far so good.

I looked at a higher mile 60k + 2020 a few months back & it was bone dry.. was a corporate commuter with oil done at 10-11k intervals .

Very interesting. So far we’ve definitely seen a number of ‘18 RMS failures and a couple ‘19s and it seems like most reports are in the 40-50k miles range. My question is, is there anything similar between all these cars with the RMS failures are can it literally happen to any W213 E63 regardless of how it’s maintained/driven?
For example, I never go the full 10k oil change intervals. I typically go 5-6k on mine. Those with RMS failure what intervals do you go with?
I never drive hard while the engine and trans temp are still in the blue. I never extended idle the vehicle. I always try to avoid heat cycling the vehicle. For example if the vehicle isn't going to be driven I avoid starting it and turning it off shortly after. I also do have fun with the vehicle, but never abuse it. I feel it’s always good to run an engine through its rpm range. Besides that I use a quality recommended motor oil and OEM filter. Not sure what else could be done to baby the car, but if there’s a way I typically do it lol.

I've never gone the full 10k between oil changes myself, more frequently for sure. The numbers are blue, I don't get on it but when they turn white, I have fun with it. Use it but do not abuse it. Did a couple track days early on. RMS was repaired last month at about 55k . . .

I changed oil at every 5,000 miles. No abuses put onto the car (like tracks). I do drive in sports + / race often in the weekends but seldom on weekdays. Very short trips during weekdays at 20 miles (10 each way) to/from office but lot more miles in the weekends for many personal errands.

2018 Rms failure
I just bought a 2018 E63s Ed 1 with 45k miles and the rms failed after 1 week of ownership. The service history looks good and the last service was 10/27/2023. I bought it on 11/6, the oil leak started a week after that. I spent a lot of time researching this car and understood the reliability to be solid. Of course now I'm discovering the many many threads about the RMS and the oil separators. Ruined my week. LOL! And to think I was warned that the service would be expensive. I was thinking about air filters, oil changes, brakes and tires, not engineering failures!

This ^^^ ... it would be extremely unlikely (and unlucky) that the RMS failed with you owning the car only for 7 days. I try to think that most people have good intentions but it's entirely possible that the dealer was aware of this issue prior to sale.

Saved my @$$. I took my 18 E63 Wagon back the week I got it and had the oil separators, RMS, and wastegate fixed with a 1 yr warranty. I agreed to cover $1,000 of the cost after some heated arguing about what was included as a powertrain component, "fairness", and who had better lawyers.
