Switching to Standard Tires

My car had GoodYear F1 MOE (20”) run-flats when I bought it and I've had nothing but feelings of hatred and disdain for these tires since. They were annoyingly loud and hard as rocks. They felt more like a second layer of wheel than rubber tires.

I finally got around to replacing them with standard (non-runflat) Michelin Pilot Sport 4S's (factory sizes) today.

Wow, massive difference! I knew there would be a change but I didn't expect it to be so immediately noticeable. The standard tires are so much more compliant and I now have that “Mercedes ride”... it rides SO much better, and much quieter.

As one simple example, there are two bridges I have to go over to get to my house and going over the expansion joints with the run-flats was like “bang-bang” and hard, now with standard tires it's like “bulump-balump” and smooth. Nice.

For anyone looking for a better ride, I can highly recommend standard tires.

I've said it in the past and I'll say it again:

The greatest strength of run-flat tires are their ability to ruin every car they're placed on.
