Estimated Range

In theory, your 1 gallon would still have about 10 miles or so for you to go, given the parameters (driving speed, loads, city or highway, road conditions, etc) of your driving situation could change in this small window, maybe the computer cannot give a realistic range to full empty.
For me, I always fill at just below 1/2 empty mark, given the car is a gas guzzler. that's just me, of course.
According to Owners manual, Total tank capacity is 80L or 21.1 US gallons. Out of that, 12L or 3.2 US gallons would be treated as reserve. It may mean, at 17.9 US gallons, the onboard reading of the fuel tank would already be showing as "empty" or "0" at this point.

the tank / readout is so nonlinear - the first half of the tank appears to be 14 gallons and the second half is 7....
I've never seen the readout blank - but agree that would have freaked me out enough to stop sooner than my planned stop.

When it gets real low it stops reporting how many miles are left. My guess is it's all legal "BUT THE CAR SAID THERE WAS 20KM LEFT AND THEN IT LEFT ME STRANDED AFTER 8KM - YOU NEED TO FIX MY LIFE NOW!" so MB just took the option away down low.

Hope you enjoyed the solar eclipse. I was viewing it in Indiana and despite the weather forecast predicting clouds, we had blue sky the entire day.

Yes, the eclipse was awesome. We got up to Colebrook, New Hampshire. Perfect weather there, too.
