I know it sounds silly but…

How is the carpet/mat in and around the gas pedal? Anything in the way/getting hung up?

Thoughtful question.. it's all good, not getting hung up on anything.

check those flaps, mine were stuck and only found out about it doing a quick test, no CEL.

I cut my mufflers off and eliminated my flaps

Have taken your advice and ordered a Dragy. Should be here in a day or so. (Mb service advisor not very proactive in helping figure it out... "No CEL, no issue". )

When I do set it up, should I just do some launches and share the results here? Will it provide any insight into HP/torque/has pedal etc? If not, how will it help?
Thanks.
something is wrong with your car.

with the dragy, at your own safety and regarding the safety of those on the road, and at your own peril (gotta get the legal out of the way):
- run several 0-60mph and post results
- run a 1/4 mile
- run a 60-130 .... this will spotlight your engine power thanks to gear ratios at these speeds ... like a poor man's dyno

plenty of dragy data in the sticky in the tuning section to see baselines of what your car should be doing in these metrics

https://mbworld.org/forums/w213-amg/...results-2.html

We discussed those exhaust flaps before - you'll need to find another dealership. It's unfortunately as simple (and likely inconvenient) as that.

Yes I am starting to think that too. Have a couple questions:

1. If the exhaust flaps not opening is the cause of performance being affected, then wouldnt it cause issues normally when flaps are closed. In other words, partially opened flaps still better than closed flaps like in comfort mode ....?

2. What would you say to the dealer to make him check my exhaust flaps in the absence of CEL and just based on my butt and ear dyno?

3. Where exactly are these exhaust flaps located? Near the exhaust tips, or by the turbos?

As always, thank you all for the help in figuring this out. I get OCD when my baby doesn't feel right and have no where else to discuss/brainstorm/seek advice than here... Appreciate u all.

You felt a subtle loss of punchiness in all modes too? What was the quick test?

Again, this may not be the flaps but they may not have any effect at low end speeds or power.

the ideal thing to do is log your car with hp tuners or an advanced scanner that can log your car ... then you get data like IAT, fuel trims, boost, wastegate duty, timing, among others. This is the core data to determine how your engine is optimized for performance

you can start by finding the service invoice from any member here in those threads that had no CEL but had power loss due to flaps and take a copy in to the new service center. DM the person you find here that posted their resolution and see if they are willing to share the invoice.

Also - since things are so muddy at this point - try going to test drive another used w213 amg and see how it feels; ocd messes with the mind and makes us sometimes believe things that aren't real - not discounting you just offering another perspective

also you can take the car to a local tuner that has a dyno and have them check the logs of the car, it may cost you dyno time and diagnostics, $500-800, but could be well worth it - solve a problem or bring peace of mind. My local tuner is AMS and they are great helping me with this stuff if I need it.

you need to get to a point where you simply enjoy this car and the driving experience. I've been where you're at, focused (perhaps in my case obsessed) with little details that drove me crazy. I had to let it go once I made sure it was as best as I could get it.

Keep the beat, this will get solved.

Lol glad to know others get as OCD about little details like me too! Yes I will update in a week or so after I take it to an indie Mercedes specialist I have located in town. Thanks for the support !

By the way, if the car launches with race launch normally, does that rule out an exhaust flaps issue? Still getting 0-60 in 3.4-3.5 secs.. with built in track pace app. Thought I'd mention that here too....

per your own account - the issue is 5th gear and beyond, and at 5th gear you're closer to a 1:1 with the engine to really feel the power. In lower gears the car is geared for acceleration so it's harder to assess engine power losses. The 0-60 can still be decent.

OR... the car is fine, but the real metrics (imho) are 60-130, 1/4 mile with trap speed

hopefully the specialist can log the car and check those and other parameters

Update...back from Indie shop

I left the car at an indie shop specializing In European cars for a day. Told them it wasn't pulling as hard before and I suspected somethings up with the exhaust valves and/or TCU. They found nothing physically wrong anywhere. They ran diagnostics which I'm attaching the relevant pages. ECU had 5 codes.. they said they cleared the codes and those didn't come back.
The car actually feels somewhat better to me!!!! Wtf? Can clearing codes make the car drive better?
Let me know what you think of the diagnostic report.. thanks!!

ECU shows 5 codes

The details of the codes..not sure if clearing these helped??

Those codes are likely from a low or dead battery at some point - clearing them didn't help improve performance but they may have done another proper tcu reset in the process and that's what you're feeling - a more aggressive shifting pattern, it'll learn your driving style (drive it like you stole it) for 100 miles or so

if you settle into feeling like the car isn't driving right still, you need to go drive a used one like yours on a lot somewhere and see if this is real or imagined

I see, I did ask them multiple times to reset the TCU adaptations and they kept saying it's not something they will do just upon request and that if the adaptations were off, it would throw a code and they saw none...so when I said TCU adaptations need to be reset, is that something different from a plain TCU reset which you're suggesting might have happened?
It does feel punchier, similar to before. Like slight shove back into seat when shifting up a gear )

I will drive more aggressive than usual for next 100 miles as u insist lol 😆

resetting the ecu could be the same as clearing the codes with their scanner (autel) that they used; resetting ecu is same as disconnecting battery overnight which is same net effect as "resetting tcu LEARNED adaptations", adaptions to fuel trims ... and other engine parameters potentially ... all will contribute to aggressive driving feel after reset if the system has learned a lazier style of driving.

glad it's better for you now - enjoy the drive

What device do you recommend for me to check codes and clear them (and in process reset the ECU) myself, should this recur in the future?

Thanks!

Presumably Autel since that's what the shop used.

I have one too. On my E63 there were a few error codes but nothing wrong with the car. My GLE63 also had a dozen codes but nothing wrong also. Same error messages about missing messages and bad signals or missing signals and things not working even though they work (phone charging pad, HUD, speaker system, air suspension raise/lower button).

easiest thing is just pull the negative battery terminal and leave it overnight, reconnect in the morning. Before you use any scanner you wanna make sure you know what you're doing and take a YouTube tutorial etc

Reason I asked about scanner to clear codes was because I did the overnight negative battery terminal thingy 3 weeks ago when I first posted here, and that did not help. The only thing that fixed it was them using the autel to clear codes, so that's a definite solution I know works for a fact, so just was wondering if worth keeping in garage...just in case ..and for any future CELs or issues . Thanks!

You can also do the tcu "pedal dance" and this will reset learned adaptations of the tcu:

https://www.mercedesmedic.com/reset-...-instructions/

not sure why your dealer didn't try resetting things with sentry when they had it a while ago for the tstat

Got it. Thanks for the link. Do you know how this translates to my 2020 e63 which has the push start button and not a key ignition. Do I just press the button twice instead of turning to 'position 2'?

I don't know if that procedure works for W213. It certainly didn't fix the jerkiness with the W212 I had.

I appreciate your positive attitude and open mindedness and willingness to give feedback. Lots of people are "takers" of info on Internet forums and don't come back with the solution or resolution. I added this to the sticky so others can benefit from this discussion.

glad it's back to normal, enjoy the beast 😊
