Hey Guys,
My friend who imports used cars from Japan to Australia has a 2018 E53 AMG wagon with 135,000 Kms (83,800 miles) on the clock.
Considering the miles and the new inline 6 turbo engine with 48v MHEV tech, am I buying a time bomb or are these cars proving to be trouble free, car has full Benz service history in Japan and looks very clean.
Keen to hear from anyone who has long term experience with this model/driveline?

I believe the 48v has always been a problem since day 1.

Apparently 48v issues resolved for the most part

I have a MY2021 E53 wagon in Canada. No issues, not one.
I am the second owner with 58XXX km. Car is very good actually, fuel economy is one advantage, but that could also be subjective to someone else.
Enjoy!

Funny I’ve been looking at cars from Japan too (not Mercedes).
This works really well for checking history, accidents etc. It’s like Car Vertical is for European cars, for Japan:

Be super careful. Japan is the Wild Wild West and a black hole for sketchy cars. They all seem to end up there. Due a lot of research! I was looking at a car that did a Europe > Japan > Canada tour lol. Needed three “records checks”.
