I was a little perplexed by their announcement. To me the Durango looks so much like the Fords they've been using I don't differentiate between them. SUV? check Police antennas? check Check speed. check
Florida pulled over the first super speeder last week after putting into place a law July 1st. As I understand the law, it is any speed over 100mph, or ant exceedence of a speed limit by 50mph.
Not just fines, jail time.

Saw a couple articles about the new unmarked CHP cars going into service to patrol parts of the I-5. This video popped into my feed this morning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UONnfB-rcHs
Last I was pulled over at speed the officer (State Police, more aggressive) saw me fly by while he was buried in traffic. He was in an Explorer. This dude was irate with me, big pupils, lecturing, red faced, loud and talking fast blah blah blah, while I remained quite and only said "sorry" with no admission of any speed, only that yes I passed him while he was stuck in traffic. There is a wide open merge lane that nobody drives in and you can pass a mile of traffic. I was late for a show at the Kennedy Center and turned to my date and asked her if I should try to make up time. I was pulled over about a minute later...LOL The officer was clearly scared and all I could think when he was lecturing me about killing young mothers on the road was how much more dangerous he had to drive to catch me in his likely under maintained ****box. Needless to say he wrote me ALL of the tickets (4) with the intent of taking my license, only one of which was valid, speeding, but he had no evidence and I didnt engage with him. He stated I was going 92 when he caught me and I was thinking he was probably 30 mph low and really had no idea and just made it up. I had to lawyer up just in case but in the end, the Officer did not show...Im sure it did not help when his superiors reviewed his body cam with him acting like an immature teenager on steroids screaming at me while having a power trip. I honestly could not have been nicer to him because I know if Im caught speeding its my fault to clean up but Im not going to do their job and create any further evidence with my words.
Ive also been pulled over for honking at a cop illegally blocking a bus lane to pass traffic which is another story where in the end, they actually sent me back the fine I paid. Literally a DC Capital Police pulled me over in Baltimore City. He asked me if I honked at him and I said "yes I did, is there any reason you've driven around traffic to block it without you lights on" He said "have a nice day" and I said "thanks, you too." When I drove away he pulled behind me and pulled me over and I was like WTF I did not honk at you again, that was the car behind me, literally. He then told me my tag was expired, which I had no idea because the email went to junk... I registered the car by the time he came back to the car... Paid the fine for being dumb and then got a refund. But yep, written warning for honking, what a baby.
Just a few months ago I was pulled over on a bridge I accelerate across when its fully open and this guy hit me with radar, music was blaring and I missed the signal. We had a great conversation. Super nice, car guy, talked about the neighborhood. Respect begets respect in all of life. He admitted he was unsure if it was me or the guy behind me speeding so said it was just a warning. I wasnt much over the limit. When he came back I thanked him for being so nice and offering the warning and his response as I was also saying it was that he was shocked to see I have not had a warning in 30 years, when I was 16. Every other time has been a ticket, all sizes including a brief stay at a hillbilly jail in southern Virginia (Botetort) when I legally passed some trucks once they finally stopped riding side by side after about 30 minutes on a two lane highway in an artificial safety zone, used blinkers slowed right back down, got pulled over, ate the weed, and got pulled right out of the car into his front seat because in VA anything over 80 is "reckless by speed". The officer was very nice but when he handed me a pink slip he said its pink because you have to come back for a trial. My only need in that situation was to basically hold my breath so he would not smell the joint I had just eaten. I hired local former police as lawyers and they told me id likely have to spend time in jail on the day before the trial with the excuse that it was unlikely the judge would even understand their argument (old, southern and all that comes with rural poor politics)...That judge was featured on 20/20 for his corruption and his illegal use of speed traps at the bottom of highway downhills...13 years probation in VA, ended in '18, no points, no insurance issues. If youve never heard, F Virginia and their draconian motor vehicle laws which are some of the most backward on each but you can expect nothing less given the states history.
Needless to say, I love speed but its few and far between these days because there's not much space to be safe and theres always a cop around the corner somewhere.
Be safe out there everyone
