Brembo Brake Differences

Recently got my brakes done. Trying to figure out the difference between the Brembo Dual Cast brake disc 09.B848.33 and the Brembo Floating brake disc 09.9313.33.

Thanks in advance.

The 09.B848.33 are the standard AMG OE Brembo rotors. They come stock with the E63S and pretty much all other AMG S models and optional on some non-S. These are semi-floating, meaning they have a separate aluminum hat and an iron ring. These are known as composite brakes due to the different materials. Then the rotor is connected to the hat via pins, so it can expand vertically independent of the hat and heat transfer to the hub is limited.

The 09.9313.33 are full-floating rotors. The ring is mounted to the hat using springs, so the ring can expand/move not only vertically, but also horizontally, so it always centers itself between the pads for optimal contact. This improves brake consistency and further improves heat resistance. These also have Brembo's patented Pillar Ventilation Technology for superior internal cooling (https://www.bremboparts.com/america/...erences-204921). These rotors came standard on the 204 C63 Black Series and the GT R when optioned w/o CCB, so these are track ready iron brake rotors. I have them on my C63S Coupe. FTC Euro sells them with lifetime replacement warranty, so you only pay for one set and get full store credit when you return the worn parts. They are excellent rotors. Much more consistent and better at modulating. Worthwhile upgrade and they look the part.

Do a search. We've discussed these a few times.

Just ordered a set of these ^ as I'm feeling some vibrations in my current brakes (and because I want the upgrade). Also going to swap pads at all four corners to the Z23s. Will put them on sometime in the next couple weeks and report back!

May also be worth checking Rock Auto for Brembo rotors and pads. They tend to sell quick, but they pretty much had best pricing available when I did mine.
They’ve gone up though, pre-covid I paid 290.00 ea. 🙁

Good Luck

Got the new rotors and pads installed and bedded in over the weekend. Can't report on brake dust yet but feel is certainly better - the vibrations of the old, worn rotors are of course gone, as is the squeaking. Plus the two-piece rotors just look cooler.

@zukmeister I didn't have time for a thorough guide but below are the tutorials I followed. I've never done brakes before but had no trouble using these videos as guides. I was definitely nervous going for that first drive but am happy to report the brakes are working as intended.

Front pad and rotor replacement (this video is for the w212 but the process and all parts used are identical):
Rear pad replacement (this video shows a non-AMG car. The only difference is our cars have an AMG cap over the caliper, which means you can't use the caliper spreading tool used in the video. But, I was able to compress the piston using the same type of caliper spreader used on the fronts):
Putting the pads in replacement mode(required for rear pads):
Fluid flush (not specific to our cars but I didn't have to deviate from the process described here at all):

Good stuff, appreciate you sharing the information with me and everyone else. Will definitely bookmark this for a later date. Definitely not dropping dropping an extra couple thousand with the dealership

@manbat would love an update on powerstops too when you get to drive on them for a bit. I'm tempted to just swap out the pads on the front and rear because the OEM are dusting so bad. I feel like I"m always just washing my wheels because of all the damn dust lol

Thank you sir!

I have a 2019 S63, different car but same brakes I believe. I swapped to the Z26 and Z23 pads at 11K miles or around 3 years ago as I was sick of all the dust from OEM pads. The dust is not only dirty, it is very hard on all of the components and joints around the wheel wells. It also makes it miserable to do things like brake jobs and fluid flushes. 36K miles later and I am still on the same set. I did not notice any difference between OEM and Powerstop with regards to performance. Brake dust is pretty much non existent. I am not sure what these things are made of but I suspect it is the same crap they insulate the outer skin of the space shuttle with. They seem to be indestructible. I still have around half the pads left and they are still going strong. YMMV. When I do my brakes at some point will I probably go with them again and get the Brembo 2 piece rotors, or maybe the Girodisc units.

They do fit. The W213 is listed on the fitment page. Only the 2018, but that's just FCP not keeping their database updated with all the model years. It was the same back when I bought both sets for my 2019 C63 S. They had only the model years up to 2018 listed. They've updated it in the meantime I just saw. The brakes haven't changed in the subsequent model years even for the W213.

What about a 2019 S63? Dimensions looks the same. Rock Auto has them for 481.00 BTW.
