• emblem repair

I've read to use high quality double sticky tape to repair the emblem that's loose, would it be foolish to use some kind of liquid adhesive like Super Goop or something similar?

yes, do not damage the paint with adhesive.

is it failing in the emblem side or the car metal side??

reclean the surface for prep - how I do it and have done this for my cars and lip spoilers:

- Palmolive soap and clean microfiber cloth to dry
- alcohol the area (alcohol pad - medical use grade)
- clean (Palmolive) and scuff the back of the emblem a bit and alcohol again
- mask off exactly the outline of where you'll apply it or use dry erase marker (your discretion on this one)
- blow dryer to heat the metal on car nicely
- blow dryer to the emblem after you applied the new 3M automotive (for lip spoilers) double sided tape ( take backing off tape before applying heat, but tape should already be applied to emblem)
- firmly apply and pressure for 30 seconds then blow dryer for 1 minute

*** key intervention was the blow drier heat - car metal has to be uncomfortably hot to touch but not to burn your finger ***

i bought in 2017 and have had many uses without fail

tape is on its way, the emblem itself has a couple attachment points that broke off . . . the car/metal side looks perfectly fine. Seems like quite a project but I'll attempt to follow your directions to the best of my ability!

do you have the pieces of the attachment points? Those can be superglued back on - the more surface area the better

are these plastic dowels missing?

because if you can acquire a new emblem with these appropriate insertion dowels intact it would be ideal

and I read more than a few threads about this particular emblem badge, falling off, even from factory installation

I do not have them. As I was removing the piece, one of them was still in the hole but I wasn’t able to retrieve it after attempting to take it out. It fell through into the fender somewhere never to be seen again. I suppose I can see if I could find a different plastic piece similar in size that could be glued on instead …

I’ve been looking at getting a new piece but when I realized they’re about $350 each I took a step back and started looking for options …

you're on the right track, if you can find another plastic piece that could serve as an anchoring point and then superglue/epoxy that appropriately, you've come close to a solution that's permanent.

try looking at drywall anchors that are plastic and seeing if you can find an anchor that would fit nicely into that hole and also take superglue after you scuff up the surfaces with sandpaper

One last recommendation:

if you want to increase the surface area of the long narrow part of the swoosh, you can consider filling in the concavity with epoxy until it's flush with the edges of that swoosh. Then once the epoxy is dried, you can apply your double-sided 3M tape cut down to size.

make sure to use masking tape on the visible side of the swoosh, the aesthetic side, to make sure no epoxy gets onto that. And of course, once the epoxy is appropriately cured, scuff up with some sandpaper to be able to really grip that double sided adhesive in all of the above mentioned tips regarding heating.

Well, I followed all directions which made it go pretty smooth, except one of the holes wasn’t quite big enough for the anchor I used and it didn’t sink in all the way so now the far and tip is sticking out way more than I want. It it’s on there with tape so no way it’s coming off unless I’ll drive through a car wash and the brushes get caught and pull it off which is very likely. So when anybody else will attempt that, make sure the anchor will go in all the way

Nice first attempt for sure, I get your frustration.

The tape is relatively new with a little bit of prying or with some dental floss. You should be able to get that emblem back up, and then you can resize or shave down that anchor, your call.

I was able to remove it just fine as you said so I took off the double sided sticky tape and applied a new round, except on the long, skinny spot where the emblem was standing off a bit and reapplied it. Same thing . . . maybe not quite as much but it still stands off. That leads me to believe there's something else going on . . . well, its on there now and I'll see how long it'll last til something catches at which point I'll have to replace the whole thing, I'll start saving now

has it just lost the curvature at that skinny part of the swoosh or is the dowel still too big for the hole (insert joke here)?

kudos for trying again btw

🤣

Might be a combination of both … lack of curvature I think has a lot to do with it. Haven’t really used a lot of force to remove it so not sure how it would’ve lost its curvature. It’s likely some mistake on my part, not sure I want to remove it again, gonna ponder that
