On a bit of an impulse, I recently picked up a 2018 E63 S wagon to be my daily driver and dog hauler, replacing a Macan S that had gone to live with my parents. I've long been enamored with fast wagons (I have an FF and an S54-swapped E46 touring as well), so getting an E63 has seemed like more of a when than an if. I stumbled upon a well optioned, well kept 2 owner car with some miles (79k) at a reasonable asking price, so it ended up fitting what I was looking for in a commuter. Not the most exciting colour combination - Selenite Gray over Macchiato/Black - but clean and pleasant to spend time in.
I enjoy putting together build threads, and rarely leave well enough alone when it comes to cars, so just starting this to document and share progress. This is my first AMG, so it'll be a learning experience. Interesting to see RMS/AOS mentioned so frequently, after many years in 996s - feels like home already.
First items on the list:
- 19" wheels (the OEM staggered winter setup would be ideal)
- extended warranty (Fidelity Platinum seems to be the go to here?)
- figure out what coding options exist

Cool car. The 4.0L Hot V is a beast of a motor but also a demanding mistress. Highly recommend the Fidelity warranty if you can get one for a reasonable price. There was a rumor floating around that Fidelity would not underwrite this car any longer because of the risk profile of the RMS/OVS frequency and repair cost for MY18-20 units. If it has never been done on this car it may be fine, and better yet if it was already done. If it has not been done I would immediately change the OVS units. It is a spendy repair but there are new revisions of these units that seem to have resolved the issues around crankcase over pressurization. I could tell on my 2019 S63 that they were bad by simply trying to remove the oil cap while the car was running. It had so much vacuum you could not remove the oil filler cap without a pry bar. Excess vacuum sucks in seals and causes them to leak. At that mileage you may also be due for motor and trans mounts along with belts so might make sense to just do it all at once if it has not already been done. Hopefully you got some maintenance records with the car.
Congrats Vivg. We are on the same boat, I just bought a '18 E63 on a trip to NYC and DC I stopped on the way from NYC to DC to check out the car and ended up buying it on the spot. I'm loving it so far and am on the lookout for an extended warranty as well. However looking into Fidelity in BBB's website the reviews were terrifying! I'm really struggling to find a company that I can trust since it's going to be a good chunk of change. Anyone in this forum that has good/bad experience with any warranty provider?
I have Alpha Warranty Services and they have been great to work with. I don't know if they have excluded the 2018-2020 E63s because of the aforementioned OVS and RMS issues like other warranty companies have. Both OVS and RMS in my 2019 have been replaced. I have added the 63 Motorsports Billet Catch Cans on my car as well.
@vivg I have a unblemished set of 3rd-party, black, cross-spoke AMG lookalikes that I'd be happy to let go for a very modest price. They were on the car when I bought it, but I wanted the OEM originals for serious backroads tossing, I've thought they'd be perfect winter wheels, where maximum g-forces aren't a factor. Give a different look from your silver cross-spokes. Much easier than swapping tire every Fall and Spring. Photo of car with 3rd-party wheels. Even my local dealer couldn't tell until they took the wheels off and looked at the back.

If you're interested in a Fidelity Platinum warranty call Mike Jordan 504-352-8796 at Mossy Motors in New Orleans. He can give you a great price. All he requires is that you have the vehicle inspected at a MB dealership.
