Crashing sound on liftoff
this is pretty much how my old ford sounded when the engine mounts were shot, low gears revving up to around 6k then lifting off, I get a slight crash sound like I've hit a small pothole, is this likely the motor mounts or a suspension part? Thanks

Try it stationary. Put the car in drive, hold the brakes, step down hard and let off. Try again in reverse. There should be no clunking or jumping around of the engine.
Very common for the mounts to break on these cars, not a terrible repair unless it's 4-matic, then it's very space limited.

It is definitely a mount. I had my engine mounts replaced at 68k they were completely destroyed. Sounded similar to what you are saying. If not that move gradually to the rear of the car first to the trans mounts the. To the diff mounts and lastly the subframe mounts. While I am fairly certain your engine mounts are shot it isn't entirely impossible that these other mounts are tired after taking some mileage.
