Performance vs tread wear...
For my 2004 CLK320, I am looking for summer tires in 17-inch (F:225-45-17 and R:245-40-17).
According to my research in different forums, my initial choice was Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. These are max performance tires and probably they will wear down very fast.
I am not an aggressive driver (mostly highway driving 120-130 KM/Hr), I am not sure if I need such high performance in my tires. I am now considering some medium grade alternatives like Bridgestone RE750. I like to consider ride comfort and tread wear as well.
What do you think about this approach?

The PS 2s are supposed to be longer wearing than the original Pilot Sports. I got 22,000 out of mine, BUT there was a lot of wear on the inside shoulder of the right rear that went unseen because the outside shoulder was still good. I should have changed them at around 18K.

Actually, I am now looking into all-season tires. They have, apparently, improved over the years. They have good grip/performance but still offer good ride comfort, much lower noise level and better tread wear. For my driving style, I have no need for max. performance tires like PS2.
I am thinking to get the Pirelli Pzero Nero M&S. Great reviews and they're currently No.1 in the "Ultra High Performance All_Season" catergory in Tirerack.

i like falken tires. I had a set of the azenis 245 45 17 on my 129 for a short time and i loved them, but gave them up in favor of putting stock rims back on. But these tires may not be the ones for you.
Currently I have falken 502's in the rear of my car and they are great tires, but not up to par with my driving style, but well up there. I am an aggressive driver so I dish out more abuse than the average driver.
I have also like the Falken 512's also very good tires. And the great thing about them are they are affordable, no need to shell out 200 dollars a piece for these quality tires.
