2002 S55
Luke...Lee...Anybody...Wheels for S55!

I have a 2002 S55 that I want to change wheels on. I want to try the AMG Monoblock IIs in 9.5 x 19.

The first question has to do with whether the wheel will fit the S-Class at all. My dealer says that the wheel can be customized to fit an S-Class. An aftermarket spot with a pretty good reputation (404 Motorsports in Atlanta) says that they can make the wheels fit as well.

Assuming they are right, can I use 9.5s all the way around or do I need to stagger? I see a lot on this board about fender rolling and wonder if that would have to take place. I've also seen comments that an S-Class can fit tire/wheel setups up to 10 x 20. Which is right?

If I can use the 9.5s, what size tires do I need? I want a larger conservative wheel and like the look of the Monoblocks. I also want to get some of the lip that will be present on the 9.5s vs. what I have on the the S-Class front rims. I intend to get them chromed as well if that makes a difference.

Thank you all for any help you may offer. I promise to actually put real pictures up when the wheels are done.

I think you should put 20" on a S55 (IF all you care is the look). I've 19" on my C and if you're to put 19" as well, dont you think its a bit too small for your car? Your car is much bigger than mine! And for a S55, my guess is you should put 8.5x20 and 10x20. Just to grab a little more grip at the rear. Am I right, Peter? But then you will have another problem... AMG doesnt have 20" wheels. Umm...this is where Peter should give his input too.....

Columbro, TireRack list a 19X8.5 Monoblock II for W140 S-Class. Seems like that wheel would fit the W220. Hmmmm!

Harris, AMG does not make any 20 inch models.

Sorry guys, was a little busy today.

The Monoblock II does not favor the styling of the new W220, it looks better on the old boxier W140. It will work (the offset/CB is almost the same) but just not the best look for the W220 IMHO. The 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 CL 215 or Cl 215 2pc look much better.

The 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 Monoblock II setup can be ordered in chrome. I do not recommend using the 9.5 all the way around. With the offset being extremely high (+47) it may hit the front suspension. Stick the 8.5 in the front and stagger the 9.5 in the rear if you want.

Tire sizes:
F - 245/40/19
R- 275/35/19 should work well

OR

255/40/19 F&R

Hope that helps.

Columbro, I think this is the nicest upgrade wheel for the S55. I wish this one was availalbe for my E55. The sizes are 19X8.5 ET44 & 19X9.5 ET46. Available at www.Tirerack.com.

C230k
How much does this wheel weigh? And will it fit a 2002 C230k?

kineda, that 19 inch AMG W220 wheel does not fit C-Class or E-Class properly. Sorry, but there is a 17 inch version - not quite as big and less bolts.

Thumbs up

The 18" will fit on the C230K no problem. It is an 18x7.5 +37 in the front, 18x8.5 +34 in the rear. contact me or Luke if you need a price.

I sure hope that AMG makes that 2 piece for the W211 and it also fits my E55. I love that wheel.

Lightbulb

Maybe think outside the box(amg). Lowenhart makes some pretty nice 20" rims.
