Boston Pot holes SUCCCK!!

Winter hasn't even begun and I've already bent a rim!! Freak'n pot hole was huge!! I tried to avoid it but I couldn't without cutting someone off. Right after I hit it I saw to people pulled over with flat tires, both on the drivers side. I called the state police to file a report and the guy says "Were you one of the 7 people pulled over". 7 People!! Ridiculous. Now I have to take time off from work to bring my car down to a dealer to make sure there isn't any other damage to the car. Then I have to file a claim with the Turnpike authority. GOD only knows when they will get around to paying out this claim, if they even do. I going to have shell out almost a grand (New rim, alignment, labor) to get the car back to normal. I just got this car!! I only have $10K miles on it!!

Sorry for the rant... Just had to blow of some steam...

There is a really good wheelshop rimpro.com that is located in tewksbury. You could probably have that wheel straightend for about $180-200. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks NitrogenBalance... I've used Rimpro a couple of time over the years thanks to Boston Potholes!! They are quality shop. I'm going to put a claim into the Mass Turnpike Authority. If they don't pay to replace the rim I'm going to have it repaired at Rimpro.

I never pursued a claim on my pothole (my pothole thread) cause I wasn't sure what govt. agency would be liable. I was on the Southeast Expressway, which, while in the city of Boston, probably is not considered a city problem. Does anyone know if it's the turnpike authority or Mass. Highway?

Actually I was heading south on 93. Pothole was in front of the Southbay plaza in Dorchester. The road has been torn up for weeks but huge potholes were created after the 9 days of rain a couple of weeks ago. I called the State police and they said that 93 is actually controlled by the Mass Turnpike Authority.

Here in Australia we just seek a preliminary judgement to find all related parties liable and have everyone appear in court. They can fight amongst themselves to see who pays.

Just as an insurance policy lowball the cities tender for the supply of toilet paper to all government departments and spike every inch of it with itching powder.

I guess I jinxed myself coming back to this thread...I hit some uneven pavement in Bedford yesterday (not even a pothole, just a 2 inch bump up to new pavement) and killed my second tire in barely 6 weeks of owning this car! Luke says I should run the tires harder (4 more pounds of air); wish he had told me that when I bought the first tire!

RBMBC32, does the MTA have a particular claim form or process? There's nothing on their website.

You need to call this number: 617-248-2866. It has all the information you need. You have to put the claim in within 30 days.

Good Luck

RB,
I hope you're still subscribed to this thread. I'm curious as to how your claim is going (I'm confident it's not settled). My second pothole claim, which Mass Highway eventually directed to Modern Continental, was handled lickety-split by MC's insurance agency (they sent me a check for what I told them the tire, shipping, and mounting cost. no hassle.) The original pothole on the expressway has proved to be a might tougher.
Mass Turnpike Authority directed me to CA-T Project, who directed me to AIG, their insurance company. They, in turn, claimed that the contractor responsible for that stretch of road could not verify any potholes in the vicinity (how's that for a joke?), due to my description of the location as "I entered the road...and within 100-200 yards..." They said that 600 feet of road was too large an area for them to identify the pothole (what are they gonna do, make the pothole pay?). I went back and photographed the patched pothole, noted the two mile markers that come before and after the spot, and threw in a couple of satellite photos from Google. Now let's see what their story is......

...update: They received my email/photos, then called and left a msg saying they "reversed their position", sent me a release to sign and return to receive the exact amount I asked for: $317.96 for two tires + mounting. Case closed!

I hit a huge pot hole at the westbound Backbay exit on Storrow Drive a couple weeks ago. Thank god nothing happened to my tires. I had the car inspected at a body shop though.
