Different brand winter tires for front/rear?

For my 2004 CLK320 Coupe, I am running Pirelli 210 all around on stock 16-inch staggered wheels in the winter. Front: 205-55-16 and Rear: 225-50-16.

These Pirelli are not that good, both in performance and treadwear. After 2 winters, the rear tires are almost finished and I am thinking to replace them with Dunlop M3. When the front tires are worn off , I will replace them with Dunlop M3 as well, probably next winter.

Is it a good idea to run different brand tires for front and rear? It is a waste to throw away the front tires now.

depends on the weather
Definitely a bad idea. It will cause drivability probelms not too mention possible traction control issues
