Aged tire question. . .
How long can tires sit around, in a temperate climate (SoCal), indoors and under cover? I have a set of wheels and tires off a 2003 SL500 that have been stacked in my garage for almost 4 years. I have them for sale on a thread in the classifieds, and a member came on my thread and posted that those tires would be completely unsafe to use due to their age. I would have to respectfully disagree, but would also like the opinion of others here. There are plenty of low-mileage pre 2003 and beyond 'Benzes running around on their original skins without issues. I know rubber will eventually get old and hard, but I do not believe that it would be significant in that short of time. I've had slicks on my racebikes that were 3 or 4 years old and still had massive grip, and we're only talking about automotive street tires here.
Thoughts???
