Snow performance of 255/40/18 vs 255/30/19?

Looking into winter options for a CLS55.

One choice is to get 19 inch snows for stock wheels and some nice Brabus 19 inch wheels (or the AMG split spoke) for summer.

Would 18's perform better in the snow than 19's? Due to more profile? Most driving is on cold hard pavement but there is occasional fluffy stuff.

Would 225/40/19 fit on stock CLS55 rear wheels? LM25's come in this size.

depends on the weather
the 18" version would work better due to the added sidewall deflection
