How do I figure out correct offset?
Hello Everyone,
I just received two AMG Styling III monoblock wheels in 18x8 that I want to put on the front of my CLK (208), along with 18x9 that I am going to put on the rear as soon as they arrive. (These wheels are spec for the W211 E-Class, as evident by their part number)
However, I have noticed that AMG seems to have speced 18x7.5 and 18x8.5 for the CLK. The offsets for those are the same as the stock 17s, which are 37mm in the front and 30mm in the rear.
The 18x8s that I received are 30mm offset. How do I determine whether this will be OK for the front, short of actually installing the wheels?
I have calculated the following myself, someone let me know if I am wrong please.
If the stock front wheels are 7.5 inches wide, and they have an offset of 37mm, that means that in order to keep the outside side of the new wheel (8 inches wide) in the same place (and extend the inside side inwards by .5 inches), I would need to reduce the offset by .5 inches (12.7mm) for an offset of 24.3mm. With a 30mm offset, that will mean that the 8 inch wide wheels will stick out 5.7mm (0.22 inches) further than the 7.5 inch wide wheels.
This doesn't sound like much, and seems that it would look just fine even with the extra .22 inches outward. However, how do I determine whether this is okay technically, as far as steering, suspension, camber, etc.?
So, will my 18x8 with 30mm offset fit fine without modifications on my CLK, or do I need to go get 18x7.5 with 37mm offset?
Thanks in advance for your help. I will take pictures of the car with the 18s as soon as this project is complete. I have posted pictures of the wheels I am talking about at http://www.err0neous.org/mbz/amgiii

GET READY TO SELL YOUR WHEELS!
It has been posted that the W211 wheels do not fit the old W210. With that in mind I would guess that they would not properly fit the W208. It is also rumored that the lug bolts are 14X1.5 instead of 12X1.5.
Those W211 wheels are:
18X8 et 30
18X9 et 39
My offset calculator states:
Front:
The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 1mm MORE
The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 13mm
Rear:
The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 15mm LESS
The outside edge of the wheel will RETRACT in towards the body by 3mm

You are correct. I will return these wheels and get the 8.5/7.5 set.
Here is a list of all sizes that I have determined the AMG Styling III Monoblock 18" wheel to be available in:
18x7.5 ET 37, 12mm bolt
18x8 ET 30, 14mm bolt
18x8.5 ET 30, 14mm bolt
18x8.5 ET 30, 12mm bolt (maybe)
18x8.5 ET 34, 12mm bolt
18x9 ET 39, 14mm bolt
18x9.5 ET 33, 14mm bolt
Also, here are the offsets along with their respective widths that are supposed to fit the 208 CLK according to AMG's site:
Front:
7.5, ET 35
7.5, ET 37
Rear:
8.5, ET 30
8.5, ET 34
Hopefully these lists will be helpful to someone else who is trying to accomplish the same thing I am, which should be a simple task, made very difficult by MB/AMG.

8.5/9.5 would probably fit. There is an offset calculator at http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/offset.html that you can use to play around with the numbers and see if the differences will be acceptable to you.
The 18x8 and 18x9 however are the ''correct'' wheels for the W211. I know they exist because I have a pair of 18x8s for the W211. I will post their part numbers tomorrow.
Now, for my question. Does anyone know why MBUSA lists the 17x7.5 and 17x8.5 Style III monoblocks as being an available option for the W211? Wouldn't these not fit due to the bolt size of 12mm? Or, do you think that they make a set that has 12mm holes and a set that has 14mm holes? If that is the case, does that not seem stupid to anyone else? Why not just have the same bolt size across the board? Do they do this just to annoy people?
As far as my problem, that being that I am trying to mount wheels with a 14mm bolt size on a car that needs 12mm bolts, doesn't anyone make bolts that are 14mm at the top, necked down to 12mm threads? If not, is it because it would be bad for some reason, or is it just that no one has thought of this possibility?

Are the bolts for W220/W215 and R230 14mm? If so then 'some' wheels that would not fit W210 would fit W211 depending on offset. I think they should have left the bolt size alone. I guess we will not see any W210 with W211 specific wheels.

An update on this. I returned the 18x8 wheels and got the 18x7.5/18x8.5 set. These have the correct offset for my car. I will post pictures as soon as they are installed.
For those interested, the part numbers are as follows:
18x7.5: A2094011602 (B66031181)
18x8.5: A2094011702 (B66031182)
I also have information on this wheel style compiled at:
