I knew it was going to happen sooner or later but the little chrome valve caps on my wheels were nicked. They're not expensive, but its a hassle to replace them. Any innovative ideas on how to prevent theft or am I just going to have to go back to those boring black plastic caps

Mine were stolen by the dealer when they chromed the wheels. They didn't want to acknowledge it so I recovered them from the cars on the showroom floor. They actually replaced two with black plastic, one factory one and one rusted one that didn't match anything. I used the rusted and plastic ones to replace the ones on the showroom floor. For weeks I would go by to get my free car wash and they were still messed up and nobody noticed.

That's hilarious! It's really sad how many of the dealers I here about here simply suck ***. My service guy gives me caps any time I ask. In fact, I have about 7 extra ones sitting in my drawer. Also, no smart business would ever gripe about a complaint for something as cheap (at least to the dealer) as tire caps. If giving the caps out prevented the loss of one future sale, it would be more than worth it.

I had new tyres on my wife's ML430 down at the local "cheap tyre place" - and they acutually put proper Mercedes metal caps back on the wheels that had them missing without charging ... I was well impressed especially as we only had 2 tyres replaced with the cheapest possible as the car was sold 2 weeks later ...
[I did ask them if they had any proper dust caps, and they said "no problem"]
