Rubbing tires?

Ok I just put on the SO-3's and when I have a bounce in the rear of the car I can sometimes hear a sort of rubbing sound. Could the tires actually be rubbing, they are the stock AMG 17's that came with the CLK, or maybe something with the suspension? I had the Michelin Pilot Sports on before this.

Thanks,

Unless your shocks are worn out, I don't see how your tires could be rubbing. We've had CLK's completely bottom out without rubbing the tires before.

When your tires rub, you will definitely know. The first couple times can be a frightening experience, and it never becomes something you can just ignore.

What size tires did you get?

Ben,

They're 245/40-17's in the rear and 225/45-17's in the front, same size as the stock tires, on the stock AMG wheels. The tires have plenty of clearance I think but a mechanic friend of mine was in the car, heard the sound and said the tires are rubbing?

It sounds like sort of like a squeak or rubbing, but I guess it isn't rubbing then. Could be the shocks/springs? I hadn't heard this before I changed the tires, and it's only on a bump where the rear of the car (I think left rear) moves up and down significantly.

Rubbing is usually a very harsh sound. If you didn't grit your teeth and cringe when you heard it, then it probably wasn't rubbing (at speed). I'm wondering if maybe your rear shocks are out, and you are bottoming out. I would go to the dealer and ask them to look at it. Your tires are the same size, so the problem isn't there.

Could be the suspension? Maybe it's my car telling me to go for the Kleeman suspension?

Lol, I have no problem selling you the suspension, but you really ought to have it checked out first. It would be much easier at the dealership to bring your car to them stock, complaining about a noise, then bringing it to them with an aftermarket suspension.
