Hi Luke,

2006 E55 AMG. Flat this morning all tires need to be replaced anyway. Was trying to make it a little closer to winter. So I live in Massachusetts, metrowest area and this would be my first winter with this car, only 1set of rims which I think are the OEMs and a pretty dinged up as well. I bought the car like this =(. Soo, what would you recommend? I'd prefer the most cost effective option =) I'm not rich...yet!

Car: 2008 Mercedes E350 4Matic with Sports pkg (18 inch wheels, 245/40R18)
Location: Nova Scotia, including back roads sometimes covered with wet glare ice on hills :-)
Wheels: I'll probably use the original 18" 10-spoke wheels for now

I've used studded tires for the past several years (on my previous car, the C240 4Matic) with great results - except for the noise. My first choice for the new-to-me E350 are Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7, the pre-studded version.

Any comments or advice? Thanks.

Are these tires (Potenza RE960AS) still available anywhere? TireRack.com says they're on back order, and when I called a local shop I was told they were discontinued. I'd like to keep the same tires on the front and rear, and only the rears need to be replaced.

The car is a 2004 CL55 AMG with stock 18" wheels, rear tire size 265/40R18.

the Potenza RE960has been discontinued in most sizes and replaced with the new RE970 but the 265/40-18 is not discontinued per the current info from Bridgestone. It would be a bit surprising if it was as the 970 is not made in that size at this time and I doubt they will discontinue it until they start making the new tire in that size.

I have two sets of wheels to work with, one set will be for summer tires and the other for dedicated winter tires.

Set #1: (Stock wheels)

Front: 8J x 18 EH2 (30mm offset)
Curently running Michelin PSS (245/40-ZR18)

Rear: 9J x 18 EH2 (39mm offset)
Currently running Michelin PSS (275/35-ZR18) <- Stock is 265/35 but these work beautifully.


Set #2: (CLS55 Wheels) - My extra set of bare wheels

Front: 8.5 x 18 (25mm offset)
Rear: 9.5 x 18 (28mm offset)



My original "quick and dirty" plan was to just mount a set of winter tires on the CLS wheels but since they are even wider than stock (and my guess is that you'll recommend a narrower winter tire for improved performance) I should probably dismount my current tires and use the stock wheels for the winter....and transfer the Michelin PSS' over to the CLS wheels in the spring?

I'm looking for a dedicated winter snow tire, I don't log tons of miles but I will need a good capable tire for snow / slush and ice. I live on a good sized hill, so I'd like some helping picking a set of tires that will make the purchase of a 500HP, rear drive only car seem less insane.

I would say use the OE wheels with a set of the Blizzak LM60 tires in the size you are running now

Just picked up my new CLS - 19x9 and 19x10. What tire(s) would you recommend for a balance of performance / snow traction? Right now, I'm leaning toward Conti DWSs, as they were pretty amazing on my C63 in the snow. That said, I did get stuck once or twice.

I like both the Michelin Pilot Sport AS+ and the Bridgestone Potenza RE970 better than the DWS. In my mind the DWS is a solid top 5 tire in that category and comes in at a much lower price point in most sizes.

Looking for a 18 inches Wheel/Tire Package for my Benz. Currently running on 20 inches (265/45 R20) but would like to downsize for winter:Went through your configurator and narrowed my choices to the two following wheels:

• moda EB1 18x8
• Rial Oslo 18x8.5

I prefer the Rial, but MB OEM Center Caps do not seem to be available for this wheel... Can you confirm?

Would like to go with Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V1. Is this a good choice?

excellent choices for both tire and wheel but, no MB caps are made in a diameter that fits the Rial product

Any news from Tire Rack or others on reviews or tests of the latest winter offerings by Goodyear (WRT products)?

All I can find so far are the early impressions by invited press/media when Goodyear set up controlled sessions at the McKinley Climatic Lab in Florida last year.

I have a 2011 C63. It's now time for me to get some winter tires in prep for the upcoming nasty winter in Canada... In any case, I would like to use my existing stock wheels as my winter wheels, and order some fancy new HREs in the spring.

So, if I do this - what size winters tires would I need to order for my stock tires?

I have the premium package but not the performance package. I believe my existing wheels are 18"s, and I'm pretty certain they're staggered, but not 100%.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7 pre-studded in 245/40R18 XL 97T.

I just brought them home, too early to install.

They look frightening. ;-) And huge. The studs are almost flush to the rubber, they look like they should be reasonably quiet (compared to other studded tires).

I would drop to 16's for winter and use the X-Ice XI2 in a 205/55-16 size with the Sport Edition CE wheel. Package price sneaks in just under $1k including Mercedes center caps

Looking for winter rubber for my 2005 CLK55.
I drive very, very little and have a 4x4 for any big snow fall but I'd like something better in the weather than the current Yokohama's.

I've had great results with BridgeStone Blizzak's (from TireRack) on my previous C230 so I'd like to stay with that unless there is something much better. I'd also be open to good all season/performance tires since I have a dedicated winter beater.

I'm looking at the Bridgestone Blizzak WS60 225/40R18 for the front (stock size)
The rears are 18x8.5 and I wanted to see if 235/40R18 would fit well? I know the speedo will be off +1.4%.
Any better fitting options for the rear?

If there was an excellent all season you could recommend I'd just go with the stock sizes. I was running Goodyear Eagle F1's in the summer previously.

225/40-18 front and 235/40-18 rear will create onboard electronics issues

all we can offer at this time is a 225/40-18 for all four corners. The recommended Rim Width Range for that size is 7.50 to 9.00 so it will fit both front and rear wheels

while admittedly this is not the greatest plan it's the only viable option currently available without purchasing new wheels

Luke, I need help! Someone told me instead of the goodyears I should just run Blizzaks year round. Only problem is I can't seem to find any Blizzaks in my tire size (275/55 R17). Is there no hope for me to ever get Blizzaks?


Blizzaks are designed for cold weather use and will wear extremely fast during the summer months. To give you some idea of what we are talking about I bought a new set of Blizzaks in January 2010. Due to family health issues I never got around to taking them off and drove them all year. They were completely bald by mid-September with less than 10,000 miles on them

Luke, I'm looking for a set of winter tires to go on my stock E63 Wheels for the winter. Is a 265/35/18 rear too wide for the snow? I looked on the website and you have a set of Dunlops that look decent for the winter. I'd like A recommendation if possible and would prefer to deal with you direct.


Dunlop Winter Sport 3D is a good choice but, if you get snow anything like last year or if you like winter road trips you might want to consider the Blizzak LM60 ... and use the OE sizes

2007 Mercedes S65 Chicago

I have two sets of 20" rims including the original rims. I would like to put snows on the original rims if possible. Are there 20" tires?

If not, I assume I will have to purchase 19" rims.

The only company the makes a rear winter tire is Pirelli but, there isn't a matching set so, it looks like 19" wheels and tires are the way to go.

For once I like the pre-selected package on the website of the Blizzak LM60 and the Sport Edition ST3 replica wheels

I have had the Blizzak LM's on my stock wheels in staggered size (265/35/18) on my E55 for the past 3 winters...and i live in Saskatchewan. They've worked very well. Nowhere has more severe winter driving conditions than we do here.

what would fit my 2012 cls?

i have 19 inch OEM wheels, 19*8.5 at the front and 19*9.5 at the back. On your website it says to run the same setup as winter tires. Is that necessary? i was thinking of running less wide wheels since their easier to get, etc.


you could run the same 255/35-19 tire size on all four of your OE wheels or you could go down to an 18" wheel and tire combo.

CL55 2005 Hankook Icebears on dedicated AMG 18" single size rims are wearing. They were astonishingly good value as my friends in Austria like them. I hate being caught in black ice and greasy snow/slush. Desire current best in class Performance snowflake winter tire preferably with XL or comparable rating but don't mind buying the IBs again if the slightly better tire is stupid money. 90% of driving on clear cold roads above 45 mph from minus 15 to 45 degrees F but black ice is always a hazard on those dxvm hills!

G500 need serious, vehicle of last resort, 18 inch stock MB wheel snowflake stud less tires. Now have yoko Geolander A/S purchased from TR. Great tires on/off road 3 seasons. But! Don't hack it as a go anywhere in the snow and ice, don't like the ice or greasy snow braking. Don't mind a narrower tire diameter equivalent to the 275/60/18s I have on now.
