Grinding noise with new wheels

I put a new set of 19" wheels and tires on my my 2004 Mercedes CLK500. The right rear wheel is making a grinding noise. When I first put them on the car it would only go about a foot and lock up on that wheel. I changed out the bolts in the rear to shorter ones I had, it didn't lock up in the rear but it still is making a grinding noise. When I put the 17 AMG's back on it acts fine. Any ideas?

You need to verify proper bolt length all the way around. On a 12mm bolt you should only have 15mm to 18mm of protruding out of the back of the wheel. Do you know how to properly check that? It's a very expensive problem to have, anything over 18mm and you can cause alot of damage.

1" or 6.5 turns to seat. 15-18mm is a little risky. Contact RADUSA. They are the source for many on here for bolts and they have great customer service.

The Mercedes Benz standard is as follows:
12x1.5mm bolt - 15.5mm to 18.5mm of bolt protrusion.
14x1.5mm bolt - 18mm to 21mm of bolt protrusion.

If you leave either bolt protruding an inch, you may want to figure in the cost of a new e-brake system which could cost as much as $2500. You can contact any bolt mfgr you want but please listen to advice from a guy with 18+ years in the industry, I've done hundreds of Mercedes with no failures.
