What Brand And Size Tires?

What size tires would you recommend for 18 x 8 in the front and 18 x 8.5 in the rear for the 18" AMG Monoblocks. I was checking out the Tire Rack site and came across the Dunlop SP Sport 9000 Blackwall's. 245/40zr/18 and 235/40zr/18. Is the brand and size OK. Or would you recommend another brand and size?

Thanks.

i believe the staggered setup for the Cs and CLKs is 18x8 and 18x9 withe 18x8.5 being made for the S-class. not sure, but if they came off a C then they will fit. anyway im running 18x8 and 18x9 Carlsson 2/5 with 225/40 and 255/35. im using Kumhos because they are cheap and the treadwear rating was good, but they suck so i dont suggest them. another option for tires if you want to go a bit wider is 235/40 and 265/35. the rolling diameter will be just a bit larger, but wont cause any problems.

It's for a 99 CLK430. Thanks Petie. I'd like to go a bit wider if it will close the gap a little more. I don't plan to lower the car so it is at stock height.

Luke, performance, safety and treadwear are all very important in my purchase. I figured if I am going to do it I might as well do it right and go all out. Which brand tire and size do you recommend?

I am considering holding onto my stock 17" AMG's and tires for the winter but in case I do get rid of them I'd probably need a tire thats all season.

Thanks again.

are you sure that the wheels are 8" front and 8.5" rear ... that seems a bit odd ... most are 8/9 combos

That's what the gentleman selling the rims said. He said 18 x 8 in the front and 18 x 8.5 in the back.

yeah... during the short time i had 18s, i ran 235/40/18 & 265/35/18... had no problems with rubbing, and my car is lowered about 2"

the main thing u need to be concerned about, if you do decide to lower your car, is to ensure the offsets are correct for ur car....

are you finally getting ur 18 monoblocks???

Sounds real nice. It's gonna look hot. I'm picky about chrome too but I've always liked the way the Monoblocks looked in chrome and since the trim around my windows is the chrome look and I haven't been able to figure out a way of changing it I went with the chrome instead of the silver.

Good Luck !

I too was gonna get the monoblocks.... but my fiancee likes the more simple design of the CL wheels... and this was probably the only way she'd let me spend our wedding money on rims...

chrome looks good since we both have dark cars. i don't mind having chrome on the CL wheels either since there isn't a whole lot of wheel surface to chrome...

none the less, i'm very happy with my purchase... can't wait to get them on

CL wheels do notfit a CLK properly .... offset and lug hardware issues

What about the tire sizes for my monoblocks. What do you recommend ?

18 x 8 in the front and 18 x 8.5 in the rear.

Thanks.

what offsets are the rear wheels .... the reason I ask is because that 8.5" rear wheel size doesn't seem correct ... the only 8.5" Monoblocks made are designed for the front of a larger model Benz

i had custom made bolts with bigger seats so it would fit better. as for the offset, its +44 front, +46 rear... i added in 8 or 10mm spacers and all is well...

ELENI, here was my baby's first pic w/ 19s right after installation (its like 1AM)

More pics to come on the W208 forum after I give it a good wash

When are you gonna get your wheels on?

As for tire sizes, I suggest either 225/40/18 & 255/35/18 .... OR .... go 235/40/18 & 265/35/18 if you want wider tires. Both WILL work... i had the later setup when I had 18s

if you were in the west coast, i could have gotten you a great deal on some yoko AVS es100... with the 235/40/18 & 265/35/18 setup, you'd only pay about $450. but since you are in the east coast... it may not be too good of an option for you

Well the guy was supposed to ship the rims out yesterday but after checking the tracking numbers through FedEx I found out that they haven't been dropped off yet. I called him yesterday and left a message on his cell but then we had a black out so I don't know if he tried to return the call or not.

I'm starting to get a little nervous now since this guy is in Florida, has the money order I sent him and hasn't bothered to call or update.

mmgrad,

Can you share with us where you had the custom lugbolts made, and how much you paid??? What dimensions did you specifically ask for?

Thanks,
Benzoxtc

I may take you up on that deal. If the place selling them doesn't mind shipping to New York. I get a really big discount with FedEx so shipping things overnight with them I pay the same as I would 5-7 day shipment with the post office.

i'll check for you this weekend if they guy still has that deal available. he gave me that deal when I got my 18" tires from him... hopefully, the deal hasn't changed.

It is a really great deal.... $450 or so for a complete set of tires... not even TireRack can beat those prices... i'll let you know maybe tomorrow...

its hard to fully trust someone you never met... and paying them substantially large amounts of money for something you've never seen either.... it is always risky.

ESPECIALLY when they lack communication after you've paid for them. Hope everything works out well for you.

Did you buy them via ebay? at the least, if you did, you'll have a little insurance against fraud and stuff...
