how to fix curb damage to BBS rims?
Thanks to the Tirerack, I've successfully upgraded my '95 E320 stock 15" rims to 17" BBS RCs (running 225/45/17 ContiExtremeContacts, which are great). Just last night I jumped part of a curb in Brooklyn while trying to avoid another car, and scraped about six inches of the peripheral edge of the rear passenger rim (about 3/8" in width).
This really is like an abrasion, since the damage is not deep. I thought of investing in a Dremel rotary tool kit, smoothing the area a bit, prepping the area with Dupont 3812S enamel reducer, and then using Wurth Lacquer Metallic Silver spray (the latter are recs are from the "Ultimate Garage"). Please tell me if this is the way to go - I tried doing a forum search but didn't have much luck.
I hope to post pix soon (on the W124 forum), since the looks of the car have been dramatically updated, and the ride quality is fine.
Regards,
Arooj
