Winter tires for G55

Just wondering if anyone knew of a good snow tire for a G55? Trying to use the original 18" wheels...

Tire size is 285/55/18

Thanks in advance...

Winter tires in that size does not appear to be available. If you need more snow traction perhaps you should go to something like this "Highway/All-Season" in size 265/60VR18. The Yokohama Geolandar H/T:

Bumping this super old thread because I'm curious as to what's available for a 2007 G55? I'm seriously considering picking one up and would like to know if I will be able to get snow tires for her. I would use the stock 18 inch rims.

IMHO the only sensible and great handling choice is:

Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow 265/60/18 110H SL: Light truck SUV Performance Winter Tires.

This meets all the requirements as to speed and load rating for the G so you will tend not to give MB an excuse in case something happens. Some CT dealers have signs up warning against using wrong tires and rims (esp. on AMGs.)

My wife has these on her '13 GLK 350 4matic and she is very pleased with them. She drives in a "sporty" manner and has been to the Skip Barber school. She drove from the NW corner down to Fairfield during the last snow/ice storm and said there was no slipping. In cold weather they handle like a proper summer tire does in the summer. (She has used Blizzaks on other SUVs and said there is no comparison - they deal with black ice just as well but the handling is top notch unlike the Blizzaks that are kind of spongey.) When she let me drive the car I was very impressed. I would put these Pirellis on my G in a heartbeat.
Luke at Tire Rack was great to deal with

both the Latitude X-Ice XI2 and the Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow are available in a 265/60-18 size and will fit the OE G55 wheels

Thanks guys for the info. There is no problem going from 285 down to 265?

Experts recommend a narrower tire in the snow

The diameter of the 285/55/18 and the 265/60/18 are more or less the same.

The footprint is a bit narrower which is often recommended in winter tires. TR has a page on it.

In the SYSTEM setting of Comand one can change the tire size to the new winter tire. This means that ESP, etc. should function optimally. I did it on my G when I changed tire size (as well as my CL) with winter tires but I have an older system. Perhaps someone here can tell you how to do it. It might also be in your OM or Comand manual.

I would be happy with either the Michelin or the Pirellis Luke recommended but we have had recent excellent experience with the Pirelli Scorpions on the GLK. Considerations are that the PS has a 110/SL load rating and is designed as an SUV/Light Truck Performance Winter Tire.
