Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3

I just got them and LOVE them. Much better than my Pilots which were on previously. The best part is that they are quiet, and have all the performance. Here is a post I replied to recently on them as well...

I'm glad to hear you like them, since I just had my tire dealer order a set from the Tire Rack (thanks Luke).
I hope they don't tramline like the Pilots.

I have not found any tire dealer yet that would even recommend the Good Years. I guess Good Years past tires (Pre GS-D3) have been crap.

Luke, your last comment seamed somewhat different from an opinion you gave regarding the GS D3. Based on some of your other posts,it looks like your preference is the Bridgestone S-03 for the W210 E55.
If you add rain, and tire life to the equation, will the GS D3 be the tire of choice?
The new GS D3's will be going on this week.

Just put a set of these on 17" staggered. Awesome tires, quiet and great handling. Only concern that I have is tread life - have heard many people say that they won't last long - we'll see...
Otherwise, great tire - love 'em.

Ive just put these on for the Spring,Summer and as much of the Fall as I can use them in.I noticed right off the bat that they are smoother riding over bumps, less transmission of shock. They are about 3/4 " wider than the Bridgestone Turanza's I had previously.A noticeable increase in the way the tires catch the ruts in the road which forces you to hold on while going straight.Probably due to the width(Clarify this if you can Luke) of the tires. In the wet, they are outstanding, you can hear them slapping the water to the side, tracks straight thru large puddles.
Handling seems much improved, steering response is real quick. Now lets see how long they last. For $150 or so per tire, they are well worth it so far.
I give them high marks

Well, I have had the GS D3's on for over two weeks. Here is what I find (compared to the Pilot Sports): Dramatically less tramlining, smoother, quieter, better in rain, stickier in the dry, less responsive on initial turn in.
It is too early to evaluate wear characteristics. I'm happy with them.

they are very good tires but, in many applications they have a narrow width when compared to the S-03's. I still like and run the S-03's because of the wider tread width which is miportant to some people including me. The narrower tread width of the GS-D3 is what reduces the tramlining and increases hydroplanning resistance. Here are some specs
both tires in the 225/45-17
S-03 Pole Position
Rim Width Range...... 7.00 to 8.50
Measure Rim Width.... 7.50
Section Width........ 9.0
Tread Width.......... 8.4
Overall Diameter..... 25.0
Eagle F1 GS-D3
Rim Width Range...... 7.00 to 8.50
Measure Rim Width.... 7.50
Section Width........ 8.8
Tread Width.......... 7.1
Overall Diameter ....... 24.9
while the S-03 tramlines more and doesn't have quite as much hydroplanning resistance the added width gives me what I need for my driving and track use

Ive never tried the SO3's but the F1GSD3's are more than adequate in the rain, even when pushing them at a cloverleaf, rain soaked at better than 50.(just now)Now compare that to the Turanza's I sold, they couldnt do that, even with only 8K miles on them.Im sure Luke can advise thru stats when all the reviews are in,where to lean.................
These do tramline quite a bit, kind of annoying but not terrible.I would definitely buy again, cause the handling is unlimited in dry weather.

Luke,
I agree with you many of us really want that extra inch of tread on our cars, both for looks and for handling.
What you do not list though is tire weight.
What does a 225/45-17 weigh for?
Pilot
S-03 Pole Position
Eagle F1 GS-D3
Using the stock 2004.5 Sports Sedan rims (polished) they are forged rims and great for stock. But cutting a few pounds in tire weight could help acceleration? I would think some brands use more steel belts, while kevlar belted tires would weigh less?
