After serving several years as the official tire source for Brock Yates'
(senior editor of Car and Driver Magazine) One Lap of America, The Tire
Rack has become the event's title sponsor in 2002 and has joined Car
and Driver Magazine and High Falls Brewing in its support of the event.
With the event's roots going back to Brock Yates' infamous flat out,
no-holds-barred "races" from New York City to Redondo Beach,
California, the Cannonball Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dashes
of the early 1970s, The Cannonball One Lap of America remains one of
the ultimate challenges for driving enthusiasts.

The Tire Rack Cannonball One Lap of America for 2002 is a motorsports
event that is accessible to the average driver while capturing the
excitement and romance of the original Cannonball Sea-to-Shining-Sea
Memorial Trophy Dashes. The event now places emphasis on racetrack
performance, highway endurance and vehicle preparation since no
support crews are allowed. The set of tires used on the street are the same ones used on the tracks
(only one set of Pirelli tires are allowed per team). This year's event format consists of nearly
twenty-four hours a day driving with competition taking place as time trials on racetracks throughout
the country. While scoring is based on performance at the racetracks, the event also places emphasis on
the endurance of the vehicles and their drivers who must survive over 5,000 miles of highway driving.

The Tire Rack Cannonball One Lap of America will have its start/finish in Rochester, New York and run
from May 3 through May 11, 2002. Its route includes time trials at the Indianapolis Raceway Park drag
strip, home of the US Nationals, the biggest NHRA event of them all, plus IRP's excellent road course.
The event will also run new tracks including the Sandia Motor Speedway in New Mexico, and the Tulsa
Speedway dirt oval, as well as, old favorites like Hallett Motor Racing Circuit, Pikes Peak International
Raceway, Texas World Speedway, Road Atlanta and Summit Point.

What does it take to run in The Tire Rack Cannonball One Lap of America? A vehicle (with competition
classes to fit virtually every vehicle), a minimum of two drivers who have each had some racing
experience (and/or two drivers' schools) and a $2,100 entry fee.
