Sits a little high but I'm not doing suspension until I resolve this vibration problem I'm having.

Looks like 19x8.5 F and 19x9.5 R on 235 and 265 tires.

Thanks guys. I love the look and feel of this setup except...

it just sits a little high. People tell me to leave it because of the roads around here, but the multi-piece design is probably very strong. I hit a pothole already and the intensity of the thud reminded me of what would have been a wheel-bending ordeal on the Lorinsers on my SL (I went through 7 wheels in 5 years on that car). Nothing on these at all. The machine says all radial and lateral runouts are within specs.

Lee's right; they're Yoko AVS 235/35/19s and 265/30/19s; per Luke's recommendation. I started using 41/43 PSI fearing the dreaded potholes in NYC but juuust a little too harsh a ride. I drove east to the Hamptons today at 40/40 PSI and actually it was very pleasant (except for that steering vibration at 65-70 again). It also seemed to grip better in the twisties. I'm going back to the shop that rebalanced the tires and WATCH the procedure on the GSP9700 this time. The tires may need to be swapped L- R with what Hunter calls high/low point matching.

BTW, I had to reset the Comand system using new FRONT tire size. Although the error was miniscule in 5-10 mile jaunts, it became funny after 25-30 miles of driving.

Can you explain more about this high/low point matching?

I'll try, but...

...I think this link will explain it better:

http://www.gsp9700.com/pub/features/how.cfm

but quickly, the machine will determine where the stiff or high point in the tire, as well as point out the low point in the rim, then show those points graphically on the screen, where to mark the tire and rim; then you're supposed to rotate the tire to that point to match. This effectively cancels out vibration caused by THAT particular irregularity in the assembly. This is only one of several items it checks for, in addition to standard dynamic spin balancing. Considering that AMG-tuned suspensions are much more sensitive, coupled with the ultra-low profile tires pumped stiff to 40+PSI, one would feel every little irregularity in the assembly, in addition to feeling more of the road. In effect, we need the best possible machine that can find, isolate, and correct these irregularities in the tire/rim assembly. Unfortunately, few techs take the time to learn the features properly, plus, correct and proper operation is probably so involved and time-consuming that the $30 per tire/wheel is hardly enough to cover shop time. My first exposure to the Hunter was when I had a vibration on my SL after switching to 17" Lorinsers and Dunlops. 3 shops tried unsucessfully until somebody told me about the Hunter, then I searched on the site's shop-locator(of course my MB dealer had one)and voila, it rode like a dream.

Check out that site, it gave me a good (but annoying to the shop) education.

Smooth fronts...finally!

Sure 'nuff, the tech admitted he did not do the high/low point matching. So I hovered over him and WATCHED as he did what the computer said to do. He offered the excuse that usually, it is not necessary unless it's a problematic wheel situation. He added that standard dynamic wheel balancing is good enough for most people. I couldn't believe what he said so I said why pay so much money for this machine that can do a perfect wheel balance and only do half what it tells you to do? Therefore you end up with a half-perfect wheel balancing job...I probably shouyld have paid $15 per wheel instead of $30...
I think he got the point. My steering wheel is smooth but now I can feel something on my seat, so I suspect he did a half-*** job on those too. Sigh...another trip down there this week for another redo, I guess.
