E43 CPO 2 cracked rims and suspension failure

Looking for some experience if others have had this. Reading this forum I like others assumed MB CPO meant the car was in better shape than it was. Brought 2017 E43 at end of Dec 2019, driven 2k miles since purchase, the front right suspension below in June and had to be replaced (warranty), 3 weeks later started to get flats - cracked front rim repaired @$1300, now 2 months later another rim cracked (other front side). Same price. Am 100% haven't hit any road debris, potholes etc. Dealers a waste of time saying driver error, raised compliant to MBUSA on CPO sale waiting for decision.

Anyone had similar instance and success with MB covering cost or discounting repair? Am happy to cover the cost if it was my fault or I hit something, but don't believe either of those occurred and the car was sold in substandard condition. In 25 yrs driving never had a rim fail & 2 in quick succession is odd.

Thanks in advance.

I've read about cracked rims on the SL but not sue about the cause. Having said that, $1,300 for a wheel repair seems a tad high. Did you check to see what a new wheel would cost?

Just went through the same exact thing in my 2018 E43 and never hit a darn pothole or anything else, like they claimed I did. Told them I wanted both the bad run flat and the cracked rim.
Drove police vehicles from Dodge, Chevrolet and Ford for 32 years and never cracked or bent a rim. 2,202.55 later (new rim, new Pirelli run flat, alignment, $150 core charge for keeping the rim and labor)
Now I am running again. Needless to say after that I purchased a Mercedes First Class Premium Protection-Wheel and Tire Protection Plus Service Contract.

I've repaired 2 cracked rims on my 2011 SL550, only to discover today another rim has 2 cracks in it. These developed after simply sitting in the garage all winter.
Open to suggestions for replacements. Thanks.

Mercedes E43 AMG Cracked Rims

I have exactly the same problems with rims cracking and bending constantly in my 2018 Mercedes E43 AMG. I have spent thousands of dollars already constantly replacing and repairing rims and replacing tires on this car. It is a total disaster. Because Mercedes refuses to own the problem, I plan to file a lawsuit in federal court. I will never buy another Mercedes.

2018 Mercedes E43 AMG Cracked Rims

People, the rims are cracking and bending no because you hit something or because it is your fault. The rims are cracking and bending because they are garbage. They are weak cast aluminum alloy wheels that simply cannot support the weight of the car and the dynamic loads to which they are subjected under normal daily driving conditions. The rims are failing because they are not strong enough for the car. They are basically defective because they are under designed for these cars. These cars when paired with run flat tires low profile tires need to be equipped with strong forged wheels and not with this cast Mercedes garbage.

Yes to this and i would add....make sure the wheel is drop forged, multiple times before machining NOT a casting that then has the rim barrel spun forged under pressure. On those the center is still a cast piece and can break away from the spokes of the wheel

Most OE's are trying to reduce build cost and more often then not they are saving by getting cheaper cast wheels that don't have the proper load rating for the car they are installed on. Go for a quality forged wheel not something flow formed or hybrid forged or whatever other random marketing term they use a true and true forged wheel with a proper load rating

HRE 2-Piece FMR, 520 Series

I am thinking to go with 19” HRE 2-Piece FMR 520 Series. These wheels have both the barrel and the center spokes part forged and the barrel has a high rating of 1950 lb which you cannot find in 19” monoblock wheels. They are strong and 2-piece modular and the reduction of the size of the wheel from 20” that I have now to 19” will give me a little extra rubber on the road to absorb loads and hopefully put this horrible cracking and bending of wheels in the past. The good thing about these HRE barrels is that they are strong and they will not crack, as opposed to the Mercedes cast wheels that crack all the time. This leads to a safe wheel that you can trust. HRE is telling me that if you hit a bad pothole even this wheel can be damaged, but it will not crack, it will bend instead. You have to abuse the wheel however in order for that to happen. I plan to switch therefore to “19 HRE 2-piece FMR 520 Series with standard Michlien tires. No more these stupid stiff run flats for me. The combination of the strong forged rims, the reduction of the rim size to 19” from 20” and the substitution of standard tires instead of run flats should resolve the problem at a cost of about $10,000.00. Nobody should have to replace the wheels and tires on a new car because they are under designed by the manufacturer to save cost. This is ridiculous and a big black eye for the Mercedes brand.
