Help with 2015 S550 Wheels/Tires

Help with 2015 S550 Wheels/Tires
Friend has 20inch AMG wheels that came with sport package. Issues is car is in New Orleans where the potholes eat the wheels and 2 have cracked so far in a year in a half.
looking for wheel/tire combo that can take a bit more of a beating while knowing it will sacrifice the look.
can 18s clear the brakes and if so can anyone recommend some options. When I tried tire rack only options were 19s or 20s. Other option is to just replace car with SUV with lots of absorption room.
