Offset Expert Help Needed: 1998 SL500
I can buy some really nice BBS RS740 wheels at a great price. I’d like to fit these to my 1998 SL500. They have the BMW bolt hole pattern, so I’d use adapters to get them to fit our 5x112 lug size.
The stock wheel offset (ET) for my car is 35, and the BBS wheels have a 20 offset. If I understand correctly, this means they would protrude further outboard than the stocks. The adapter width of 3/4-1” would cause them to stick out even further. So the possible problems I see are potential fender rub, and the additional load on wheel bearings and suspension components. I don’t want to roll the fender lips.
Is this just a bad idea? They are such nice wheels.
