2001 CLK430 AMG rims

Can I plus size these tires from the stock sizes 225/45/17 and 245/40/17 on the stock AMG rims that come on 2001+ CLK 430's?

depends on the weather
there is no real advantage to going wider on the OE wheels ... the increased grip providied by the added width is offset by the additional sidewall deflection

That being said... can it be done? and to what size. I would like a wider tire for a more aggressive look, I don't track this car so performance advantage isn't necessary. I figure if I need to change the tires why not go for a more aggressive look while I am at it.

they wont look that much wider. you could probably only bump it up to 235 and 255 and you might have rubbing issues. Whats the point? Either buy new (wider) rims to handle bigger tires or buy oem size.

You may be able to squeak by with 10mm increase (without rubbing) in the fronts and rears, if keeping the same 17" OEM wheels. But there are several factors when considering this:

1. The load index will not be correct vs. the stock load index rating
2. It will cost more
3. You may have issues with ESP and/or speedometer errors

Assuming you are okay with all this, here are some examples I found on Tirerack that might work:

Front:

235/40-17 ($187 ea. for Michelin PS2 vs. $166 stock size)
235/45-17 (185 ea. for Michelin PS2 vs. $166 stock size), however, these may rub if you don't roll your fenders, depending on what springs pads you are running.

Rear:

255/40-17 ($201 ea. for Michelin PS2 vs. $193 stock size)

I also checked 255/35-17 and 265/35-17, but these sizes are not made.

Good luck

Thanks! Now that is good information. I don't think I will go this route on the above knowledge. Anyone have a good 18" wheel and tire package for sale?

If you desire used tires, check the classified section or ebay. If you want new wheels/tires, contact Luke at Tirerack

BTW, the 18-inch (AMG Monocblcok II) setup with new Michelins runs about $2500, not including an alignment. 18" tires are expensive (at least to me) - one of the reasons I haven't pulled the trigger on 18s yet....well that and the fact that I have new PS2s coming for under $500 for my CLK
