AMG Monoblock II when did polished flanges come in?
I recently bought a set for the R129 ET31 8x18. Had planned on a CNC/diamond cut refurb.
An in-depth chat yesterday to a wheel restorer, he was convinced a lot of the earlier Monoblock wheels didn’t originally have polished type flanges/lips.
I’m over 50 years old and always loved older AMG’s. He got me thinking that perhaps early 90’s AMG Monoblocks maybe didn’t have polished lips. I do think that by the mid 1990’s however, all probably did.
My memory is hazy on this but was there not maybe a choice to choose polished type lips or not? I’ve a nagging feeling there might have been both.
Thoughts? I’m also quite interested to know when the Monoblock II first appeared on the scene.
I think these wheels I have are possibly earlier wheels than some are in the same size.
TIA

Lovely 208 Designo?
Someone has a nice selection of rims in those pics! I’ve actually got a brand new (but old now) set of replicas of the 8.5 + 10 inch AMG splits. pic attached
The above of mine are are a 129 part number so must’ve originally been specifically for the R129.
The more I’ve thought about it since posting I am fairly sure I recall seeing the wheels offered when new in both an overall plain finish and a polished lip finish. I bet this was around the early 90’s. This may of course have been a European/climate thing.
Anyone on which year Monoblock II’s came in? Around 1993 maybe?
