Time to put a third set of tires on my 2000 E55 - I have had the original Michelin Pilots, and then got the Michelin Pilot A/S. I got 16000 miles out of each set.
This time around, I am considering getting either the Pirelli P-Zero Nero, OR Nitto NT 555. Heard good things about both tires - any opinions either way ?
My driving is a little aggresive, California, no snow. THX !

I had the Nitto 555s on a previous car they are a pretty good budget tire... They had good tread life and they handle pretty well.
They must be pretty good - I was surprised to see both of these brands of tires on various versions of new BRABUS prepared MB's in Newport Beach.
Of course Michelin is a great brand, but I'm not sure that the extra $100 + per tire is worth it based upon my experience with the past two sets of PILOT's.
Talked with a guy at Big O Tires last week - he said the hottest tire right now to the serious "Tuner car" crowd here in the esat bay area is the Nitto NT555. Interesting, might have to try them out...

Its a popular tire because of one reason.... its cheap.
I had them and couldnt stand them, very noisy.

Strange - Tires.com gives them a good rating on noise, and just about everything else for that matter. Also - have never known BRABUS to cut corners on anything by being "cheap". Maybe we are all just sucked into the "michelin" thing - my two sets were just "okay".

I have the NT555, this is my 2nd set of rears!! Pretty good track tire but after 3/4 of its tread life, the tire becomes a lot less sticky. The Pirellis on the other hand are just as sticky from brand new to the end of their thread life. Pirellis become less sticky once they get warm but the Nittos become more sticky once they are warm (considering you have more then 3/4 of the treadlife left on the Nittos). All and all I am happy, but There are a few tires on the market taht I want to try. The Kumho MX, the Michelin PS2 (which I hear great ratings on), and the BF Goodrich comp t/a KD.

nitto nt555 suck! Doesn't grip, gets noisy as hell when it starts wearing out, it's bad bad bad!
How do you really feel about that tire ?

They get really loud once they start wearing out. Try Michelins and the difference is incredible. Originally Posted by gate1way2

Regardless of my rant, I need tires, so how much do you want for them?

I had nittos nt555 on my clk and they were the first tires that were actually quiet. Go figure...
I think I'm going to try the PZero Nero's - sound like a very good all around tire, good reviews on Tire Rack and Tires.com and I have to say that they look good in this size - especially the sidewall lettering.
Funny how different tire "aspect sizes" (35 / 45 etc) look different on the sidewall lettering. Anyway - after two sets of Pilots, what the heck...
