What are the "can" and "cants" of widening a wheel?

I've been told only forged and steel wheels can be done and not cast wheels?

you understand how widening works right? you are welding in a piece of metal or changing lips to get something wider...

cast aluminum would not be safe after welding because the overall material strength of the wheel would be inconsistent. Plus last I checked cast aluminum was always a 1 piece wheel so you cant take it apart and change lips. Leaving you with no safe option to make the wheel wider.

steel wheels get welded wider typically... 2pc/3pc forged you're talking about changing lips/barrels for extra width.
