Pull off this little wheel. There are tiny tabs on the side. Then carefully pull off the wheel being careful to retain the spring within it. Note where the arrow on the wheel is. Place the wheel back on with the cupholder fully extended. Close the cupholder to test before putting the retainer back on.

This type of screw. I screwed it in and then used some nippers to make it the same height as the tab that broke off. You must be acereful to align the screw exactly where the spring will catch it.

This is the broken tab. So I needed a replacement stop for the spring. As the wheel turns while closing, the spring catches the stop and adds tension while winding up. When you open it that tension unwinds forcing the cupholder open. The "lock" to keep it closed is on the right of this pic under that brass retainer. Look at it to see how it works, matching up with the bottom of the cupholder.

After there wheel is removed, you will seee there should be a tab there that ramps up the spring when closing the cupholder. Note that you can regrease this area using something like krylox sunroof grease.

This is the spring, keep it as is unless it has become unlatched. IF so, wind it up and latch it to the hook on the plastic. If that inner hook is gone, you will have to rig something to work based on what you see here.
