Would You Give Up Your Mercedes for a Porsche?

For the longest time now, Porsche has sandbagged the wonderfully light and nimble Cayman with an engine and suspension package that makes it less of a performer than the company’s halo 911. That however might all be changing.

Recently, Porsche took the wraps off the company’s newest Cayman, the GT4, and it looks to be an absolute treat.

Using the same 3.8L flat-six cylinder from the regular 911 Carrera, the new GT4 Cayman definitely got the horsepower bump it always needed. Add to that a trick suspension, decreased weight, and a standard 7-speed manual transmission, and things are definitely looking up.

That said, it has a few of our members thinking about turning in their Affalterbach badges for some that have the town of Stuttgart on them. According to Bardman, the new Cayman GT4 offers up quite a few choice items that he’s been looking for. And many forum members seem to agree.

The GT4 “ticks” a number of Bardman’s boxes: it comes in a manual, is still naturally aspirated, and will have some of the most dynamic handling on the planet. It sounds that he’s made up his mind already, although Bardman does say he’ll miss the V8 note in his C63.

Bardman’s post got me thinking: what would make the rest of you hand in your Mercedes keys for something that reads Porsche, especially in a world that has the new Mercedes AMG GT in it (for most likely around the same price)?
