Just imagine being able to hit the track in a beast like the Mercedes-AMG GT S and having a system on hand that can detect when those tires might need cooling off, then spraying them with the appropriate amount of water.

That’s exactly what MB’s parent company, Daimler, appears to be preparing to engineer into some higher-performance models. That assumption is based on a recent patent application, according to Autoevolution. The system takes the water beneath the windshield and rear window typically collected after a vehicle drives in the rain or snow, and repurposes the liquid to cool the tires.

A set of high-tech sensors monitor the temperature of the tires to assess when the water spray is actually needed. According to the patent application, the water system would not only help to reduce the temperature of the tires during the summer, but it would also help reduce ice and snow buildup on the tires during the winter, improving the safety of vehicles.

Pretty cool, right?
