I only have 52,000 miles on my car but my FSS is calling for these items to be replaced - and according to Konigstiger he recommends that I do the work, so I will do the work...
Does anyone know if I need any special tool to remove the spark plug wires from the spark plugs? I read this somewhere but the dealer didn't know anything about it.
Thanks!!

03 E500 and Corvette
I have a 2003 E320 so only 12 spark plugs. Dealership quoted me $11.00 per plug. Also, I plan to replace the fuel filter, which means that I will be replacing the pump as well because they are together. In addition to the fuel pump/filter assembly I have to change a bracket and wire according to the dealer. $280.00 for the pump/filter, $28.00 for the wire, and $31.00 for the bracket. So I'm looking at $471.00 + Tax

The tool for removing the gas tank caps is $75+ depending on where you buy it -- the MB part number for the claw wrench is 203-589-01-07-00, and when you replace the rings, they need to be torqued to 80Nm (59ft lbs). I also remember seeing that an angled, 17mm open ended wrench can be used to remove the spark plug wire boots by prying the wrench against the valve cover. I used a regular 17mm open end and didn't have any problems. I recommend that you remove all the coil packs too to get better access -- just remember to label the coil pack high-voltage leads to the respective plugs.
A few safety comments:
1) Change the fuel filter when the fuel level is no more than a quarter of a tank -- the less the better.
2) Don't use any lights that can accidently fall and break causing sparks -- there will be a lot of gas fumes when you remove the ring covers -- I used a good flashlight.
3) Gas will squirt out pretty good from the small black hose (on the filter) when you disconnect it, even if you remove the gas cap to relieve pressure, so have plenty of rags and a metal container to catch the gas.
Hope this helps. Also, I sent you a PM.
Regards,
paul...
