I just completed my fix today, and had my hat blown off. Can't thank Tony enough. My only addition to this forum would be that I was able to buy the w140 blower regulator for 79.65, including shipping and insurance. Chinese knockoff. On EBAY at http://cm.ebay.com/cm/ck/1065-29392-...m=110377359122

Confused...
Hello. My blower has started doing next to nothing. I have always found the blower "weak", but now it is worse. I read this thread and found hope....
Then I did the "actual values" test referred to on page one, and suddenly the blower is responding again, and the values reported in the test shows between 0,8-6,0v. The blower is still weak though (like it has been since i bought the car 2 years ago). Is the test reporting what the control unit is directing or what is actually happening to the blower? It definately does not blow any hats off....
Any ideas?

Hello folks-
Just spent a hot 45 minutes replacing the regulator with the KAE 3.701.420 regulator from AllEuropean.com. No wires to solder or cut. Most difficult part was the contortions needed to get between the seat and under the glove box.
Blows even better than before.
Tony, for the original post and the subsequent ones with additional info - thank you muchly! Saved $850+.

Hello,
I have a 1997 E320 that no matter what speed setting the A/C is set at, it only sprinkles out the air. The air is cold but you can only hear psst..psst psst coming out. This look like the DIY that I need. Would taking it out be the only way i know that i need the fan regulator/blower motor replaced? ANd i would order the s-class part right?

Assuming that the blower/regulator in your 1997 is the same as my early 1999 that I just repaired, you can use the KAE brand part from All European ($249+/-)
You may be able to replace the regulator without removing the blower motor, but it is difficult and requires some contortionist moves to get at everything. For the few extra minutes it takes to remove (4 torx screws) and disconnect the blower motor and regulator, it is well worth it. You can then take your time to clean and seat the new regulator correctly.
For more details, see Tony's post above - it is very well done and the current iteration of the KAE regulators is directly plug compatible - ie I did not have to do any cutting/soldering.

Hello Sameh-
This does NOT look like the regulator that I replaced in my '99 E320. At a minimum, the screw locations are not even close to what I replaced, and the device in your pic is much larger than mine.

I have dismanteled the blower cover and found that my blower is exactly the same as the one that I have posted earlier. Just removed the two screws and the two wire connectors. bought a similar one (Behr) at 95 USDollars. Thanks to the tax free country that I am living in. My AC fan is now blowing like Winter Wind
.I still having a minor problem though. While scrolling the fan speed wheel to speeds from 1 to 5, it jumps up and down a little, but I am now able to get all speeds. I assume that the control wheel needs replacement or may be cleaning. Any ideas

I have a 2002 E320 and the blower refused to go on at all the other day. We were about to go on a trip, so we took out other car (1997 E320). Thanks to Tony and this thread, I had planned to do this fix when I returned and save $800 plus on the fix. However, upon returning the blower now works with no problem. Any ideas on why what would cause it to stop working and then start again after setting two days?

I have also fixed the problem of the jumping fan speed; found out that my AC control unsit, the analog speed dial and the temerature dials, are completly malfunctioning. Replaced with a used one from the scrap for only 140 USD. Great deal knowing that the original new one costs 700 USD. The AC is now working fine.... I mean finally working fine.

Help on the fix
This fix made the fan blow harder than ever but after replacing the regulator it kicked on as soon as I plugged it in and can not be regulated or turned off unless I unplug it.
Any ideas on how to trouble shoot this issue?

Tony Great thread!!! Bosch part comes with a new wiring harness for E class

I to thought I had this problem. but mine was the actual motor. the part I recieved from Phil at allpartsexpress.com came with 2 wiring harnessess one that looks the same as the splicing pictures the other was perfectly made for my the E class mid 90's Benz. my is a 96 e300d. I was impressed. Unfortchantly I have a short in the blower motor.go to www.allwartsexpress.com paste the part # 1408218451 look for the Bosch product. it does not show both connector plugs but I have attached some pictures of what comes in the box. Bosch has made it with a clip at the regultor so you can use either wiring harness.

Hi all, I have a friend that has a 2004 E320 and the blower would shut off after a little while of use and then she would have to wait a while to turn it back on before it actually would come back on. This sounds a little different then most everyone elses issues, but M.B. said that she needed a new blower and regulator.
So, would the S-class regulator possibly work for this year of car and do you really think that the blower would need to be replaced?

Since the blower works, stops and then works back again; then most probably it is not the blower, as it ultimately works. I believe this is your regulator needs to be replaced. Using the chasis number, you will be able to get your part from any MB dealer. Please let us know what happened next.. Thanks. Sameh
