RENNTECH C74 mod for my 2010 C63 AMG
I love my 2010 C63 AMG, and when I first got it I thought it was the perfect car for me. After a year and 13,000 kilometers passed, I've noticed a few issues:
- Lack of traction! The stock 255/35/18 Continental tires just cannot cope with the enormous torques. The matter becomes even worse in winter time as the tires lose even more tractions! I find it surprising that AMG overlooked such a major deficiency. Even my 2010 Porsche Cayman has bigger tires!
- At higher than usual speed the car does not feel very sure-footed -- certainly not as stable as the Cayman.
- Not easily distinguishable from the regular C-class.
While searching for a solution, I stumbled upon RENNTECH’s web site and noticed their C74 package. By increasing the rear track width to 74 inches, they are able to fit 315 series tires. The aero package also claims to improve the aero dynamics of the car, thus increasing its stability at high speeds. Of course, they also offer a whole wide range of engine mods to output a whopping 600+ HPs!
I decided to go with the full aero package, but without the power modification. 600+ HPs are just not necessary for my purpose. In the end I settled with the following configuration:
- Full RENNTECH C74 Aero Package
- 19” Mesh-8 Carbon Fiber wheels from 360 FORGED
- Front 245/35/19 and Rear 305/30/19 Michelin PS2 tires
- Techtec ECU modification to 540+ HPs
The original C74 is equipped with 20” rear wheels and 305/25/20 tires. I chose not to go this extreme because the road condition where I live is not so optimal. Besides, I feel the handling characteristic of my C63 is already good enough, but ride quality is not something I want to sacrifice.
I wanted to get the RENNTECH ECU but they require me to ship the original ECU to them so I didn’t go through the trouble and got the Techtec instead. A simple upgrade gives me 90 more horsepower so that’s pretty good… actually, more than good enough.
When the pieces came they were unpainted carbon fiber. Very high quality and beautiful. However, in the end we decided to paint the fenders as well as the rear wing to match the car’s color. The carbon fiber pieces are so reflective under the sun it becomes nearly invisible so visually you cannot see the added bulk of the car. After they were painted the effect is much nicer. To match the black wheels I also tapered the chrome around the doors.
After the mod we really have a head turner! The car draws a LOT of attention! Of course it also feels much more sure-footed and the additional power gain is quite noticeable even in low speed driving. Interestingly the growl of the car also seems a bit louder. I don’t think it’s due to the ECU upgrade, perhaps the new exhaust tips are producing some echoing effects.
As they say once you start modify your car you can’t stop, I find it to be true! I’m going to paint the brake, and ordered a new carbon fiber hood with vents. Once I got them installed I will post more pictures!

It looks really good. I love the rear fenders the front not so much and would probably leave it badged as a c63 the 74 from renntech has something to do with rear tack width right?

It looks better in person... yes, the 74 means the rear track width gets increased to 74-inch in order to accomodate the larger tires. Actually RENNTECH didn't supply the C74 badge -- I ordered a really cheap one online and slapped it on (quality is horrible). But people will look and all seem puzzled -- Whoa? C74? What the?! You know... I really got a kick from that. I'm going to paint the mercedes logo on the trunck lid just to make it look even more mysterious, LOL.

Very nice! Looks much better in black than the silver showcar Renntech was using for their C74 demo...I'd still prefer if the fenders were molded to give it a more seamless look.
How do the fenders look up close in person? How's the fitment? Any gaps or seams? Any issues with the install?

It looks awesome! Very nicely done!
You might find that you can get even more traction if you don't put tire shine on the tread too

Your car looks fantastic. I really like it in black. And the wheels look so sharp. The diffuser and the exhaust pipes are so nice! Love them.
Your tires' tread look like you dressed them with Soul Glo! haha

I replied but I guess that message was lost... yes, the 74 refers to the increased track width. The C74 badge is a really cheap one I got from online as RENNTECH didn't supply them. They look horrible from close range, but I like the way people stare it and say "Whoa?! What the?!". Got a kick from that every time

You do know how track width is measured, don't you? And based on MB stated interior shoulder width there is NO WAY.

I find it interesting that your car doesn't have LED turn signals
