Just merged all the "dyno mode" threads into 1 thread, so we can sticky it in the DIY section. I added the step-by-step DIY for 2003-2004.5 models (not sure if it applies to '05-07 also).
I haven't looked through the posts yet, but the step-by-step for other MY's (i.e. '01-'02, '05-'07) may be in here already. I will add the step-by-steps for each section of MY's to the 1st post once I search through and find them.
To those of you who have never seen this before, please be VERY careful with this mode as it turns off your ABS and ESP.

2002 C230 KOMPRESSOR
Before I ask my quesion I just want to say that I seched and I found this thread .. I also found this comment so figured I could end the serch here...
~~~~"Just merged all the "dyno mode" threads into 1 thread, so we can sticky it in the DIY section"~~~~
SO here is my question
I used instructions from ScottW911.. which worked perfectly {THANKS}..
My question is what do all the #'s mean on the first page..
This is what mine says...
Instr SW: 37 01 Ver.:7D
Instr HW: 49 01
Instr NO: A203 540 43 11
Oil Level: 5.2 qrts
Eng.: M111E E23ML
And the the 2nd page says
ESP Dynameter Test
ON
W. Term. 15 OFF
The 1st page I know what the "Oil Level" is but would like to know what the other #'s are ??
The 2nd page I know that "ON" turns the test on but what does "w. term." stand for???
Also for Info purposes I have a 2002 C230k Auto.. 60k miles
Thanks for any answers....
I believe the C230 uses the same method to enter dyno mode as the C32. Here is a copy of a sticky on the C32 forum that give a step by step process to enter Dyno Mode.
Give some thanks to 1FASTC32 for this info.
Dyno Mode
To Dyno your C32, you will need to do the following:
1. To start, the key must be removed from the ignition.
2. Insert the key and turn to position 1.
3. Immediately press and hold the trip odometer reset button until the instrument cluster beeps. There is no visual message, only an audio beep. Be patient, this takes around 40 seconds.
4. Press the lower menu button (it looks like two sheets of paper, the one with the writing in the background behind the blank one) 5. Press the up arrow button.
6. Press the "+" sign to disable the Traction System (turn "ON" test mode) 7. Start the engine, the traction system is now disabled.
To return to normal, remove the key and restart the engine. The traction control warning should no longer be in the cluster. If it is, shut the engine off and remove the key again. Then insert the key and turn to position 1. Note that the DYNO test screen is displayed immediately. Push the "-" button to enable the traction system (turn "OFF" test mode)
NOTE: When you first turn the key to position 1, ESP DYNO Test screen pops up, then after 1-2 seconds it may disappear while faults are displayed. If you weren't fast enough in pressing the "-" button before codes were displayed, just wait until all codes cycle by, then the ESP DYNO Test screen will reappear.
No, this doesn't work for any car but the 203, before you ask.
Enjoy, and I'm not buying you new tires!
On cars equipped with Command, to enter the diagnostic screen press and hold the following keys for about 8 seconds: Mute + 1 + 3
Give some thanks to 1FASTC32 for this info.
The "w. term." has me baffled also. Anyone got any good guesses?
west terminal?
water termperture? (sorry)
when (to) terminate?
western terminology?
wild termites?
Walter Termburg?
OK, I'm out of guesses.
Ok guys I put my car in dyno and drove it roughly about 1 mile to a store. I get back in and start the car and now the check engine light is on along with ABS. I switch dyno back to w. term 15 off which I assume is to turn off dyno mode. But the check engine light is still on. Before disconnecting the battery, I just wanted to make if there was any other way around this. Does this mean there is really something wrong with my car? Anyone else run into this?
+1 on this. I tried the other instructions on this forum and it did not work. This is the correct way. Others say Position 2 but I tried Position 1 and it worked. Thanks for this.
SickSpeedMonte:
To my knowledge, 06-07 cars do not have electronic oil measurement. Feature was removed.
Also the oil capacity of the C230K is 5.5L (5.8Q).
personally, yes, i do use dyno mode to do burnouts, power slide, ect. it makes the car feel like it has 10 more extra hp (but it really doesnt) cause of the better throttle response and no delay upon launch. there is no longer interference with power, just you and the car, no computers to restrain you.
Dyno mode does not improve throttle response or the annoying DBW delay these cars seem to have. All it does is prevent ESP's traction control function from cutting throttle or applying brakes during a WOT start-off. Which, if you drive a C230, good luck getting the tires to spin on dry pavement at all - ESP or not.
Ah, ok. Well I checked the oil with my dipstick after it sat for several hours after the oil change (I ran it for about 2-3 minutes after the change), and it was about half way between the min and max. I only put 7 qt's in though, thinking it would be easier to add a little than to take a little out. I'll check it again before I leave work today.
Those are a bunch of version coding stuff. The important one is the ol one. 5.7L of oil is what it is showing. Should be 5.5 but I wouldn't worry as long as it isn't telling you overfull.
Dyno Mode LOCKOUT?
I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to ask here to avoid starting another redundant thread.
I have been using dyno mode for a couple of months on my 2005 C230. Recently I took it to the dealership to have the musty odor purged from the vents. They also said there was a recall on the front cam bearings. So I let them do that. Later I wanted to see the actual voltage of the car to trouble shoot a interior light dimming issue, and could not get into dyno mode at all! I used to just insert the key, turn right one position, then push the reset button three times fast. Now when I do that, nothing happens. Is it possible they locked me out? I have gotten into that menu at least five or six times. Perhaps I am doing something wrong? Does it matter what screen I am on initially?
Thanks in advance!
