timing marks please help!

2005 c230 1.8 i have torn down the front of the engine to replace the balance shaft chain due to it broke. there are two gears with marks on them but I cant find any other marks to line them up with. Everything I have read is to pull them chain threw with the old one well I cant do that it snapped. Please help me identify the marks so I can put it back together in the correct location.

Looking at the photos you might want to replace the gears also, especially the drive gear (at the crank) as they look pretty worn out. Some of the teeth are worn short which could potentially make the new chain slip. By the way isn't the 1.8 a crasher motor? Have you run an air pressure check to test for bent valves?

I didn't run a air leak test don't have the set up and I didn't notice the worn sprockets thank you for pointing that out to me. I bought the car knowing that it didon't runfound the chain broken plan was to put it on and fire it up see if there were any other issues since the chain broke that runs the oil pump.
