Fuel pump issue?
Hi all,
Yesterday I noticed the cars idle running a little high at idle and in drive(stopped at lights) I thought nothing of it as it has done it in the past.
This morning the car cranked but did not start on several attempts. Checked the fuel rail valve thing (like a tyre valve pin) and no pressure. Used the secondary car for today instead and when home tried the 32 and it fired. Drove it for 15mins and all seems fine. I have fired it up several times over the course of a couple of hours with out a problem.
a)For a couple of months the rear lights throw a fault however are working fine and recently on 2-3 occasions the Command has switched off and only up and running when I restarted the car. - if the connector to the fuel sender unit to the SAM is melted/fried does the car completely fault or will it be intermittent?
b) Twice over the course 2 months the accelerator has gone dead when driving (like the ic pump going) and when restart the car all good. It would pull the P0120 and the accelerator circuit malfunction code)
c)All plugs, leads, fuel filter,CPS have been changed within the last 8 months. Car has just over 200,000kms on it.
d)It smelt like fuel when it fired up when I got home today. If the pump fails is it intermittent or a complete fail?
I went ahead anyway and ordered the pump(thank you to both GT4awd and lizardjack)https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c...p-c32-amg.html as I will not see the indie until early new year (should have the pump then regardless)
but am now wondering is the SAM or relay to fault? Fuel sender unit? No codes have been displayed on my scanner. I have pulled the top relay from the rear SAM and looks fine. I am not so handy with a spanner what should I be looking for please?

When my fuel pump went out, it was intermittent, like I'd lose power and have to keep it at really low throttle. But it progressively got worse.

Thank you Gramma,
I have checked the green/black at the rear SAM and all is good. https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c...t-start-2.html
However have been presented with this:
Why would fuel be leaking out? A bit intense
Should I be buying one of these as well as the pump?
http://www.rmeuropean.com/Part-Numbe..._94E6B777.aspx
From what I have read the sender unit is replaced too. Just want to have the parts ready as the turn around for parts down under a good week and a half. If indie pulls it apart early January and ascertains needs sender unit too...will be late January/early Feb until repair.

Cool; thank you I will get one. BTW the car just started; put the SAM and boot trim back together and she fired up. Concerned its not the pumps but an electrical short due to the leak. Was yours slightly leaking topside? Do you think the leak is due to the pump working and then not?

Both the feeder and the main pumps: peirburg pumps. Got the main pump off ebay (from turkey - followed lizardjacks link) and the feeder pump from an AU supplier (using the link for part # suppied by gramma)

I think I'm having this same fuel pump problem but not sure.
3 times in the past month my C32 would crank but not start up. After about 15 minutes the car finally started each time and drove normally with full power, until this last time.
I replaced the CPS about 6 months ago and when that failed it threw a code.
if the fuel pump goes out does that typically throw a code? I searched the boards here and from what I've read the fuel pump failure will not throw a code. I've also read that you can replace just the fuel pump with one like the Walbro. I've also read that on a C32 the OEM fuel pump can only be bought with a new fuel tank (most posters here say you do NOT need to do that and is a waste of money).
i have a 178mm pulley, NW intake and just bought EC shorty headers that i am waiting to install once i fix this.... question if this is the fuel pump and considering my modifications would it make sense to get the Walbro pump?

I just called the MB dealer in Chicago and to fix my fuel pump problem they quoted $1,537 in parts and $450 in labor... the service advisor didnt know if that parts cost was the pump+fuel tank, or just the replamement pump.
I had heard MB dealers will only sell the replacement fuel pump + fuel tank together, but cannot source genuine MB part for just the pump so assuming thats why the parts cost is so high???????

i did take my c32 to the shop and they did an awesome job diagnosing my fuel pump issue (my shop is speedriven in chicago, the owner is marcin who is a genius with AMGs). they found that my fuel pump still functions ok but the connector pins got fried a bit due to the pump being older and worn out so it has to draw more current to function. equally important is that they explained that the pump operates best when the tank is minimally 1/4 or more filled since the pump sits vertically in the tank and the fuel actually helps cool the pump and prevent overheating which I inadvertently probably caused since i rarely drove the car and only kept at most 1/8th of a tank of fuel in it.
they replaced some of the fried connector pins for $50 bucks total and after a week the car starts up every time. that was a huge help compared to the $2k the dealer quoted me to replace the entire fuel tank assembly ($1500 in parts alone) when just changing the connector pins for $50 did the trick and is a testament to the integrity and honesty of marcin's guys at speedriven in my opinion
they also installed my headers and heat exchanger and removed secondary cats and did a great job with that.
