CA Smog Test...

Hi guys,

I need a smog test done on the C32 within the next month. I've got a Eurocharged ECU & TCU tune, NeedsWings intake, and fully custom exhaust with secondary cats removed.

From my understanding, the intake will not pass, and the ECU software probably won't either. I think the exhaust should pass, but again, I'm not sure.

Could someone chime in if they know specifics or have experience? Really hoping I don't have to swap the secondary cats back in....

you need to find a place that doesn't care about visual. it'll probably pass the sniffer

Actually, I just read that they don't do the sniffer test anymore on vehicles model year 2000 and newer. So now it seems to be a more detailed OBD2 examination along with a visual.

whether the smog station has upgraded their equipment to the newest will determine sniffer or not.

I just had my car smog'd a few months ago. Put the stock intake back on and make sure all of the hoses are connected..

Have you had a recent CEL appear?
How does the car sound?

If you have not had any CEL's and your car sounds stock or close to stock you shouldn't have a problem.

I just find the crappiest shops I can find they don't have a clue about the cars I told the last shop not to send the fail log back to the DMV if it didn't pass because my exhaust was moded. The guy was arguing with me that it wasn't moded lol. I passed CA smog with that C55 with rear cats gone. My new one has the same thing rear cats/tune and res delete. The guy didn't even dyno the car and nothing was in my tail pipe. I was kind of surprised and confused the shop wasn't even big enough to dyno a car unless it was FWD I didn't ask any questions as the car passed.

Yup, my Smog in Nov, no sniffer, just OBDII. Passed no problem.

Yep, can confirm!

I just passed the California STAR smog test with the resonator and secondary cat delete on my C55.

They no longer plug the sniffer into your exhaust. Everything is done through the OBDII reader and nothing triggered any red flags
