Hi gurus , anybody who did this at a shop, how many hours of labor / cost are we looking at for a swap? I went through the instructions and given enough time and the right tools along with patience it's possible to do this at home. Problem is I don't have a garage so it's out of the question at this time for me.

I came across this thread on one of the UK MB forums. Interesting dyno results for a 55 engine. Approx 400hp is pretty serious numbers IMO

Great news Before getting the engine in the 43, do everything that is needed because things will be easy with the engine out: sparkplugs, valve cover gaskets, waterpump perhaps?, crankshaft oil seal, etc., etc.

Am planning to replace most of the items you mentioned above, adding to that the Air filters and the timing belt as they are already in bad condition.
I'll try my best to photograph and document each step of the engine fix/swap.

Out Of Control!!
There is no timing belt

You mean the ancillaries drive belt up front for the fan, water pump, alternator, A/C compressor, etc.

Gents,
Excuse my lack of experience in this field but currently i seek your advise. The engine oil filter of the 5.5 noted to be in horrible condition, does this seem to be problem in future?
Also, am having hard time to remov the tranny cooler pipe which is stuck to the back side of the 43 engine. Is there any special tool which used to remove it?
This issue might be discussed previously but am not able to trace it.
Regards,

This filter has not aged well!
I know AMG strongly specify the use of specific high grade filter for the high flow pumps in these engines,I would imagine its easy for indy's to chuck any old filter in there?

u need to order that pipe .. partsnumber is 112 990 03 78
u want to be sure its leakproof when installing it in the 5.5.one which has been used will fit less good. the cost is like $/€2.-

Agree with Dutch you should order a new nipple, they are cheap.
The original is glued in and I would do the same again. It is very easy to damage the mating surface when removing so do carefully, iirc I ended up punching mine in a little which collapses the seal, you can then pull out.
Also, always replace the seals on EGR pipes to manifold when disturbed!

The Propshaft or Crankshaft mountings observed to be in bad condition, so i had to replace them. My C43 use to have harmonic vibration in whole body (not only in the steering) spicially at high speed, could this be the reason?
90% of the job is complete.. we'll update once the engine is in.

Good work you are indeed pro nipple remover!
While you have the prop shaft out check all parts of the shafts for wear check locating bushes oval at diff, spline dry/worn, notchy/dry universal, dry/worn hanger or bearing play
The donuts are in very bad shape this would not help at all with vibration!

Finally, the engine swap was successfully done. I had some issues in the beginning which it was not related to the engine, but all solved now.. the engine effectively operate.
So i took the car for speed & acceleration test, i honestly haven't expect much from this 5.5 engine, but WOW ! the car become massively powerful & felt way smooth and faster then the 4.3 engine..
Am using the C43 ECU & transmission, and everything until now response well to the engine..
I am happy with the current gained power and i don't think i would tend to modify further..
I've put some effort & $$$ to make this successfully work & definitely i don't regret this swapping project at any point, thanks to ZAYED and his monster C55 for creating the motivation to do so
While testing the car, i had chance to do some drag racing from rolling start, one of the victims was the new A45 ///AMG, which ultimatily lost .. right now i'll be hunting the new VW Gulf VII-R and V8's american muscules .. lets see if this engine will impress me more

Ive pulled on some interesting cars but lately my car has been strugling against cars that i know i should blow out the park.
A45 is not slow...especially from zero to sixty. Do you think the 5.4 swapped c43 would beat it in a quarter mile?

A modded old V6 TT S4 can be a serious challenge though ,they are very fast stage 3 and up .

you must now have a much wilder car to drive?
what year is the new engine and how many km's did this engine cover?
your c43 how many km's did it cover until now?

Carl, my C55 is much monster from dig to about 95 mph, then starting to slowing down,,
i think C55 with 2.82 will be better after quarter/mph, but stock 3.07 is more better from digging..!!

When using a transmission from a different car(for example a 2001 e55)....is it normally just plug and play type of deal or is there anything that needs to be done to the ecu or trany?
What would be the proper procedure when doing a trany transplant from a newer model amg?

Hi PJ, my guy cleared any codes and did a full TCU reset before I got the car back. The shifts are firm and crisp and I'm very happy. What's your location? I may have a guy for you to see if you're close enough.
