The lonely life of an AMG owner.
Went to a Friday night meet.. As always only Mercedes there. Tons of Honda, subaru, Lexus, Mazda, few BMW's.. Get out walk around, check out some rides while people are wondering why your borrowing grandpa's car.. Police show up and park next to my car. People are more interested in the cop car than probably the rarest merc in the area.. Ohh well at least we know the 202's are special.
Snapped a pic on the drive home.

She looks good
Ive been to many car meets and its always a different experience.
I have to admit that i couldnt care less for attention from people who wanna drive what everyone else drives and who trt to be like everyone else
Its like buying a pair of true religion jeans just because they are popular.
We need a w202 meet

Dude, you're preaching to the choir here.
In the almost-three-years I've owned a C43, TWO people have had any clue whatsoever what they were looking at. Guy I went to college with and my friend's brother in law at his wedding. In both cases it was a, "wow, is that a C43? Those are super rare!" Both are old school E30 BMW guys.
But otherwise I've given up on it. There's a free car show every friday night here with a surprising turn out. But SO MANY Mustangs Camaros, 60's chevy Nova's, and then the usual rice rocket collection blaring loud rap and techno music and revving their engines.
I drive my C43 but I park it over by the edge out of the way, and no one cares.
Doesn't matter. I know what it is and I love it. Not my fault everyone else wants to do the same thing.

Agree 100% with everything you guys said. And it cracks me up about you saying you park on the edge of the meet and nobody cares. That's exactly what happens 90% of the time too. Plus you always get confused looks as to if your parking to show your ride or going inside to get something to eat (sonic Parking lot)
It doesn't bother me per say and the meets are always a good time but damn I'd love to pull in just once and see another 202. A fellow black sheep in a flock of white sheep with huge spoilers and fart can exhaust systems.

I have them.. Well 3 of them. I left them off because i don't really care for the giant B logo. I'm going to order some grey and chrome mercedes stars. at least see how that looks. Love these wheels though, especially the light silver painted between the spokes and the almost polished but still machined finish.

I'll be attending a Cars and Coffee tomorrow with the C36, and my E46 bmw, which is just a plain old, stock 323i with no options at all which I have slightly lowered and crammed X5 wheels under... I wonder which one will get more attention? haha. AND the C36 has bad paint, so its really just going to look like someone bought an old crappy c280 and stuck some AMG badges all over it, lol.

I get that very often now that I have a very loud setup.... Love the look on the rice rockets face when I smash the pedal and leave them. Haha

speaking of rice rockets, got a run for my money this weekend by some guy in a mazdaspeed3. Merging on the interstate (had my wife, infant, and toddler in the car) the guy was in front of me, slow traffic making us merge at like 45mph. Late for a wedding, I look behind me to make sure I can just cut over and floor it. By the time I see the coast is clear, I turn around and the guy in front of me is doing the same thing, so I floored it and followed him. He got a couple seconds head start, but I figured the old C43 would deal with that just fine. But the best I could manage was being chained to his bumper until about 120mph. Impressive for a 4 banger. Of course, beyond 120 it would've been a whole different story. But, wife, baby, and toddler in the car so I let out to let the nagging commence.

I had a chance to run a g37 sedan the other night.
My car is making ticking noise, i have an exhaust leak by the muffler, and i had to throw my stock sparkplug wires back on coz one of my magnacore ones tore in half but i still ran this guy.
We didnt go off the line but id say from 20mph he punched it and was pulling for a second until i dropped it too. Wer hanging even but normally at this point when im racing stock jdms im just waiting for my car to shift again and i know its game over. As soon as the car shifted it seemed like he stepped on his brakes because i pulled on him so bad. All i could hear was that v6 screaming as i was walking by him
Btw i didnt even go as far as pushing the kickdown button. Makes me wonder how bad id humiliate him if my car ran healthy

I can definitely relate to this subject matter. One of the things I think makes us "lonely owners" is the lack of modifications that we can really make to our cars other than suspension/wheels and tires. I mean, do you really want to mess with hand-built German-engineered goodness?
300hp and 300ft-lbs not enough for you? Engine swap? A 6-spd tranny swap would make things interesting! But that's out of the realm for most owners, isn't it?

Agree entirely, the c36 has been bored, stroked, cams, valves, porting, exhaust and intake.. What's left to do? 77hp per liter naturally aspirated. That's why it's fun seeing you 43 and 55 guys playing with chargers and such.
Hit up the meet again last Saturday. Had a great time. Parked over with the BMW guys and just happened to run into an old friend I hadn't seen in years. Back in the day when I was playing with datsuns. He has a sr20det powered 620 pick up. He was showing a sweet but rusted 510 2 door he just picked up. Good times. He introduced me to his buddy with a rotary powered 510 semi track car that was pretty sweet... Not going to lie.. Got me thinking about getting a Datsun again but seriously it's not the money it's the time.

1997 Mercedes Benz C36 AMG
To be honest, when I purchased my C36 last year I thought everyone and their grandmother would be drooling over it. In the past 12 months I had one old Mercedes Guy drive past me with a thumbs up.
Disappointing but I suppose that's what one can expect without a cherry bomb exhaust and a whale tail spoiler.

I was actually surprised at the Cars & Coffee here in town this past weekend. Not only was I NOT the only Mercedes (a 202 C280 sport joined me) but I also had a bright yellow, Renntech tuned 2005 SL65 on the other side of me. AND there was a guy there who was a Mercedes master tech, who was very excited to see a C36 there, haha.

but it's in Franklin, TN (translation: where all of Nashville's super rich live) so my C43 will probably be escorted to the gate where I will be shot on site

It also depends on what your car looks like. A stock w202 amg will only get noticed by true mercedes enthusiasts but if you lower it on some decent rims, you are in for more then you expect. W202s are actually pretty elegant cars....especially the face lifted ones and the amgs. The factory 4x4 stance ruins the looks imo
Im just wondering about how many people think its a poser car because they have never heard of a c36 and a c43...
Just the other day a guy gave me a compliment on my car while waiting for some fast food but he was really surprised to hear that it had a v8 under the hood
