Under the Knife!
I haven't shared a ton about this but I pulled the trigger on a 5.4 swap for my C43. I did a bit of reading and some of you are probably familiar with my thread https://mbworld.org/forums/c36-amg-c...-question.html. Anyway, I sourced a 69k mile 5.4 out of a CLK55 and a 67k mile transmission out of a 210 E55. Both were great deals imo. I had the transmission checked out and it's a MB reman that went in the car at about 42k. We resealed the motor and did a service on the transmission just to be safe. I also took care of a few things that I put off over the last 3-4 months: new plugs, crank position sensor, motor/trans mounts and power steering pump.
Here's the kick in the pants moment. I get a call from my tech and he tells me the noise I was hearing, I think you guys remember me posting here: https://mbworld.org/forums/c36-amg-c...ml#post6527433, was from the bad power steering pump. My old 4.3L motor looks excellent!
Anyway, I should have pics later today
Thanks to everyone who answered all my stupid questions along the way. I'm sure more will come.

Whats the plan with the transmission since its from an E55? Is it a direct swap and no need to mess with ecu and cables and stuff?
I have a trans out of a 01 e55 and my car always shifted weird compared to other c43s i drove. I know the trans is in good shape since we had it serviced recently.
Seems like theres always some sorrt of delay in shifting. Nothing helped.....new maf, tps, resetting.....

if you want to hear chain stretch, listen to my 99.
easy way to verify is to just pop the belt off and let it run. if the noise is still there it is most likely chain. another test is to open the oil fill cap and stick your ear to it. if the noise is louder in there = probably chain. or really wicked valves and lifters in which case your head is probably f*cked!

I picked up my car this evening. I must say it's definitely a different animal. It wants to run free!! I didn't track my car previously but it did spend some time on the dyno so I will do some pulls to get back to back numbers. Old engine and trans are still for sale too.

Just a follow up on this. I put about 215-220 miles on the car today and I must say it drives great. Lots of torque where I want it and it cruises at 85mph effortlessly. A/C blows cold (we drove from LA to Palm Springs), no overheating or running hot issues and it tackles hills no problem. I feel like every C43 should have this done . I imagine the difference is like a US market E36 M3 vs a European market E36 M3.

I'm interested also as I can't recall reading about dyno results after the 55 swap.
I did mention in another thread that you could be getting close to 400hp at the engine depending what you have around the engine (filters + exhaust)
