Get an axle stand or jack under the trans when you take the support out. That's safer as we still want you as round on here after the work 😊

Looks like you may be right and it's a simple fix?

Well, it's definitely the PLIL but I've hit a new problem.

Who ever installed the PLIL the first time over-tightened the bolt holding it. Now that I have backed the bolt out and installed the new PLIL, the bolt won't get tight!

How much trouble am I in? Am I going to have to drop the trans??? How much tension is needed to secure the PLIL!?

Don't know if the bolt hole goes through the casting, hopefully not. Sounds like some helicoil fix is required...

My apologies for rehatching an old thread but I ran into a problem. I'm in the process of replacing the PLIL and the lock pawl retaining pin just won't budge. Is there an easy way to remove it? All help is greatly appreciated!

Disregard my last question as I was able to remove it.

Funnily enough, I just had this problem happen after a 1,000 mile drive to my new home in FL. Parked in the garage and came back the next day to bring her out to wash to find a HUGE puddle of ATF on the floor; several drops per second leak. Coming from the same area (cross-member). I was thinking the rear seal (output shaft) but perhaps it's the PLIL?

I'm having a mechanic swing by the house to confirm what it is so I can get it towed the shop (didn't want to tow it around town to get work quoted out, etc, as I'm between jobs currently).

PLIL is at the pan, not near the cross member... I'm afraid you have a more serious problem.

Ah, ok. Probably the rear seal then. Shop quoted me $450 parts/labor for the fix, which isn't too bad - assuming that's the problem.

I've replaced the pilot bushing and PLIL as well as the retaining pin o-ring. I noticed a few areas on the housing where there was fluid seepage. I'm going to replace the hollow screw seal rings, breather seal ring and the tranny drain plug seal. I'm guessing that the rear seepage is from a failing driveshaft to transmission bushing as seen in the last pic, part#140 997 23 45. Can anyone confirm this? Should I replace the main seal and torque converter seal on the tranny while it's accessible? Thx

Had a mechanic swing by and check it out; he said he thinks it's the PLIL (slim chance it might be the rear seal). He ruled out anything serious, so that's good.

He was surprised I had that technical manual someone posted earlier.
