Is Windshield flush at the sides?
May sound like a weird question, but is the windshield flush at the sides?
A little backstory: I was driving to work and all of a sudden I heard a loud SMACK! Something hit my wind shield.. I don't think it was a rock because my windshield was fine, no cracks or anything easily visible. I'm thinking it was maybe a piece of tire or something that became airbourne..
I get to work and assess the damage... I'm not sure if this is normal or not, if it is I never noticed it. The windshield does not come at all flush to the sides of the car? It looks like the windshield is recessed a little bit. To the point where I can easily grip the pillar from the outside, on both sides.
I'm thinking this is not at all normal (but a part of me is hopeful it is). Any input?

Quick question. Are you ever in the Livingston area? I saw a Steel Grey tinted C63 pass my house last week, made me automatically think of you, as it was probly the 3rd C63 I've seen since I got mine two years ago.

Totally normal, MB has been doing this for years, it eliminates water "rounding" the pillar and coming across the driver/passenger windows. Ever notice if you have the windows cracked open in light rain the water doesn't drip down onto the armrest.
It's called German engineering, try that in any American car and you'll see what I mean.
In other words, it acts as a gutter to send the water up the roof of the car and not down the sides, it might also help with aerodynamics, I'm not sure.
