DIY oil change is PITA on C63
Did my oil change for the first time last night. I didn't have a mityvac and prefer the old fashion drain from the ground.
I think it took me like 2 hrs lol.
I had to jack the car up. remove all the underpanels because I wasn't sure which one to remove. After that I had to locate the oil drain on the pan and oil cooler.
I ended up jacking the car up on both sides because the drain plug is facing the driver side while the oil cooler drain is on the passenger side!
This is the first car that changing the oil seems like a PITA. The design of the underbody panels did not acct for quick release like other cars. Then again I only done oil changes on Japanese cars.
Next oil change I will probably take it to my local Euro shop that runs all day special of $100 oil change mobile one 0-40w.
My two hr is worth more then the $30 I save doing this oil change, but not enough to pay the dealer $300 for it. lol

The Mityvac way is a lot easier.
1) I just start the car and warm it up for about 5 mins and then shut off the engine.
2) Pull the dipstick out
3) Insert the Mityvac extractor tube down the dipstick until it hits the bottom.
4) Pump 10 times and wait till it's done.
5) Keep pumping till you get most of it out.
6) Pour in 8.5-9 quarts of oil.
7) Change out filter
You're done. Takes me about 30 mins because I'm usually surfing the web while I wait or talking on the phone.

Good job on the oil change! At least you can say you did it =O)
The evac system is so much easier. I use a Motive product. Took me no more then 1/2 an hour.
BTW
Use 5W40 oil.

yea I might have to purchase a Mityvac.
I don't think they sell 5-40w mobil one down here.
My euro shop told me they use 0-40w and I believe the dealership told me the same thing.
They quoted me something $225 for Service A, but then said to get mobil one they will add another $70 so $295. So I just decided to take it home and do it.

The Mobil 1 sticker is there because Exxon-Mobil paid them to put the sticker there. There are dozens of synthetic oils that are certified by MB to meet the requirements of these engines, including Valvoline, Total, Quaker State, etc.
The dealership does not have to use Mobil 1 if it doesn't want to.

Read and learn
This says M156 is 0W-40 and 5W-40 only
229.5
229.51
I like the 229.5 because the low SPAsh (229.51) is a reduction in wear inhibitors.
The AMG Academy, the guys from Germany introducing the C63BS, and the SL65BS uses Mobil1 0W-40.
Drain is recommended, do a search in the PL.
Yes, it is a bit of a PITA with the panels.
I skip the oil cooler.

Really? It's not difficult and if you run GOOD oil it's not like you do that often. We knocked my 09 out in under 30 mins for first time. **** most race bikes harder. But best is getting Motul sponsorship so I get to run Motul 300v 5/40 free. really guys shouldn't take more than an hour.

You should NOT be using a mityvac to do oil changes. You risk gunk and deposits forming over time, which obviously isn't good for the engine; especially an engine like ours. It may be a PITA, but old-school is the way to go.
For a $200+ A service, you're better off getting a higher-end oil (i.e. Motul, Redline, etc.) and doing it yourself. You get the satisfaction of doing the job yourself and you save about half of what you would normally pay.
The only time you should be taking your car to the dealership for anything, is to get a problem fixed under warranty. Otherwise you're flushing money down the drain with their "service." I got my C63 with about 2.5 years of warranty (it's been a little over a year now) left on it, and I have never taken it back to the dealership for maintenance.
Just my 0.02.

New piece of information.
If you change your oil and your cam adjusters star causing the cams to make a large tapped noise for a couple secondsduring start, then the valve that allows the oil to drain from the filter housing did not seat properly when replacing the oil filter.
Had this happen on the previous change. I had tried reseating the filter a couple times to ensure it would come up with the cap so oil would not spill out the top. So, I messed with it.
This last change I did not. The noise went away. Oil analysis shows no detrimental wear. Lucky.

FYI - Most dealerships use the extraction method when you take your car in for service.

I've done oil changes on my C63 multiple times and spend over $100 on oil and filter.
I accidentally stripped my drain plug and took it to the dealer for a new plug and the subsequent oil change... and the (FULL) oil change with new filter cost me $50...
That has literally been the only time I was glad I stripped any bolt.

I use the air compressor version of the Mityvac. Hook it up the compressor and let it suck. Doesn't get all of the oil out, but I'm not too concerned since my oil changes are due by time instead of mileage. Bought the car 7/09 and currently at 9428 mi.

Also, the recommended oil is now 5w40 for our engines.
